Three Finger Cove: Billy ~ Book Six

Chapter Fifteen

At twelve, noon, Mr. Ken got out his megaphone and had the children and parents gather close. The owner of The Cove, and today's Easter Egg Roll host, called his boys over so he could introduce them to the crowd.

"Boys and girls and parents. I want to take a few moments to introduce all of my boys to you. Some of you met them at the Christmas Party, but for those who hadn't, let me do that for you now.

Mr. Ken had the boys' line up in the order they were brought to The Cove. That way he felt the adults would better understand the introductions.

"As you can see, I have six boys next to me. And, I want to tell you they are all residents of Three Finger Cove, which is now referred to as The Cove. Anyway. Robert came to The Cove 16 months ago, right after the Holidays. And, if you haven't heard, I adopted Robert last October. He is now my legal son and heir.

This next boy is Charles. He arrived at The Cove the last 4th of July. Next to him are the twins, Kevin and Kyle. Their parents were injured in that horrific accident just when school began. They were brought to The Cove just before Labor Day.

"Next is Matthew. He came to The Cove about the first of November. And, then, there is Bill. He's only been at The Cove about ten days now and is a freshman at Alvin York High School. So, if you see any of them out and about, don't be afraid to say Hi to them," finished Mr. Ken Thomas.

"Now for the Rules of the Easter Egg Roll. They haven't changed ... much ... since last year," chuckled Mr. Ken.

"What I did do was separate the age groups to make it fairer for the 2 to 4-year old's, the 5 to 7-year old's, and the 8 to 10-year old boys and girls.

"That said, the rest of the Easter Egg Roll Rules have not changed from the previous years. But for the benefit of any new residents, I want to quickly reiterate them.

One: The children MUST stay in their designated areas.
Two: The Easter Eggs may or may not contain a Prize Coupon, but pick them up anyway. The majority of the eggs contain nickels, dimes or quarters or Easter Candy eggs. And some ... may contain paper money, as well.
Three: When all the Easter Eggs have been collected, the children are to open the eggs to see if they WON a prize. If you find a coupon, come over to the garage and go to the area with the color of your coupon to collect your prize.
Four: ONLY ONE PRIZE will be awarded to a child. Even if they have multiple Prize Coupons. If that is the case, that child will select which Prize they want. Prizes not collected will have their coupon placed in an egg and put into a box for the children to pick a plastic egg from. That will happen until all prizes are awarded.
Five: Parents, please be aware that some Easter Eggs DO contain small coins. They have either quarters, dimes or nickels, so please watch your child does NOT put them in his or her mouth and swallow them. A few Easter Eggs DO have paper money in them, so please watch out for them, as well.
Six: The decisions of the Judges, that would be me and my 'sons', are FINAL.

"Are we ready to start the Easter Egg Roll?" asked a pumped-up Ken Thomas.

The kids all screamed, "Yeaaaaaa!"

"OK. Let's all head to our assigned areas," called out Mr. Ken. "Then, when I see everyone is ready, at the sound of the horn the children can go ahead and grab as many plastic eggs as they can."

Even though the three different age groups had their own Easter Egg Roll tracks to follow, they all started from either side of the main driveway that leads from the Main Gate to the main house. So, when Mr. Ken saw the children were getting restless, he sounded the horn on his megaphone.

Upon the sound of the horn the children ran to the first egg they found, collected it into their basket and headed on to the next one. The older kids had the long legs and were able to finish their Roll first. They then began to check their eggs. Upon finding a coupon the boys and girls could be heard yelling about their find.

The smaller 2, 3 and 4-year olds were slower than the other two groups. The 4-year olds sort of knew what they were supposed to do and were busy collecting Easter eggs. The two-year old's, some dressed as Easter Bunnies, would pick up an egg and put it in their mouth. The moms and dads had their cameras ready and took loads of pictures.

The 3 years olds weren't as fast as the four-year old's, but they sort of held their own and were busy picking up the eggs overlooked by their older challengers. Some of the parents helped their two-year-old collect plastic eggs and the boys watching over the Roll knew to let them.

The older groups were finished within five minutes of the horn sounding. The middle group were finished in about seven minutes. The youngest group took about twenty minutes to collect all the eggs and their parents helping open the eggs to see what their child had.

The next step was for the kids to come to the garage to exchange their coupon for their prize. Some boys and girls had multiple coupons and they got to select which prize they wanted. The girls opted for the plush animals. The boys usually opted for the Easter baskets full of candy, but a few took the plush animals.

The youngest children didn't know which prize they wanted, so the boys manning the gift giveaway offered both of them to choose from. Many took the plush animals. The rest took the candy basket as it also had a small plush animal along with candy. The smiles on their faces were priceless and the parents caught them on their cameras.

The boys and girls who hadn't received a prize were able to stop by to choose from a box that had the extra coupons from the kids who had multiple ones. There were more children than prizes left, but each youngster who hadn't received a prize was able to pick a plastic egg.

Some boys and girls found a coupon their first time through the line and were happy. The children who never received a prize were disappointed, but thanked Mr. Ken for having the Easter Egg Roll for them.

The older children saw the construction and had asked the other Cover boys what it was going to be. When they heard it was going to be a skate park they asked if they could see it. That caused a problem for the boys helping Mr. Ken out, as they knew only the owner of The Cove and Mr. Wayne could show off the construction area.

When Mr. Ken heard what the older children wanted to do, he talked it over with Mr. Wayne. The Estate Master said it wouldn't hurt and now that the 'cat was out of the bag' if he showed it to them and their parents it would stop all the questions for his 'boys' at school.

Mr. Ken had the boys gather up those kids who wanted to look at the skate park construction. He waited until the majority of the parents and their children left before he told those gathered what he intended to do. The parents were surprised at what Mr. Ken was building, so they wanted to see it as well.

The nine and ten year olds asked lots of questions about the skate park. They wanted to know when it would be finished. They asked who would be able to use it. They wanted to know about all the different elements there would be. They also asked about the building going up right next to the skate park.

The children were surprised the skate park would be finished right after school was over. They were very disappointed to learn only friends of his 'boys' would be able to use the skate park, and only after their parents signed a waiver.

The parents were also surprised that only invited children would be able to use the new facility. Mr. Ken explained he was building the facility for his 'boys' and their friends and not for the community. The owner of The Cove added that the county had its own skate park where they could take their children to skate. Then, the man walked away.

It got very quiet after that exchange. But it didn't last. The boys were really excited about the skate bowls, rails, steps, ramps, verticals and other elements they saw. One boy asked how they could be a friend of Mr. Ken's 'boys' and all the Covers and their friends laughed.

Robert spoke up and answered the question and explained that their friends were mainly in their class at school. The Cover teen added that right now there were no nine or ten-year olds living at The Cove. He did say that he never knew when someone that age would be brought there to live.

Billy then spoke up and told the boy that he only just arrived ten days ago and he would soon be fifteen. The older Cover teen stressed that Mr. Ken never knows when a new foster boy would ever show up, just like him.

Robert told the boy to wait and see if his dad ever got to foster a nine or ten-year-old and maybe he could be his friend and get invited over to The Cove to skate, swim and go on local trips like they did to SeaWorld and Six Flags Fiesta Texas.

"But, what if it is a girl instead of a boy?" asked the youngster.

"Believe me when I say my dad won't take a girl," replied Mr. Ken's son, Robert.

The boys and girls and their parents who asked for a tour of the Cove Skate Park construction site all headed home after that last conversation. The boys decided to go back to the garage and begin to clean up the area. They had boxes to break down and plastic eggs and wrapping to sweep up. The boys also went out into the Egg Roll areas and picked up the plastic egg parts lying there.

It took the boys an hour to clean up from the Easter Egg Roll. When everything was done, Mr. Ken thanked all of the volunteers and hoped they would help him, again, next year, as well.

Charles spoke up and asked if they could burn some burgers. Mr. Ken asked the boys if that was what they wanted to do. They all agreed they were hungry. Brett and Kaden asked Billy what the pre-teen meant and all Billy would say is to watch what happens next.

There weren't a lot of the Covers friends there that Saturday afternoon, but there were enough to get the entire barbeque together and fired up. Billy and his friends just stood back and watched the symphony going on before them.

Twenty minutes later, everyone who helped with the Easter Egg Roll were sitting down and eating.

"Do they do this often?" asked Brett.

"Just about every time their friends come over, they cook the burgers and dogs. They call it 'burn the burgers', so everyone knows what they are talking about," explained Billy

"How often do their friends come over?" asked Kaden.

"Their friends are here just about any day there is no school. They not only 'burn the burgers', but they use those ramps out in the parking corral first, then they either cook or swim," replied Billy.

"But, isn't it a bit too cold to swim?" asked Kaden.

"Mr. Ken has an indoor pool," replied a smiling Billy. "Let me ask Mr. Ken if I can show you it and more of The Cove.

After getting permission to show his friends around The Cove, Billy took his two friends into the Great Room and then through the doors that opened into the indoor pool. The new friends couldn't believe the size of the pool and they now wished they had brought their swimsuits. Billy told them that when they first swim in it, they have to pass a simple swim test.

"You have got to be joking," exclaimed Kaden.

"Nope! One boy refused to take it and they wouldn't let him swim in the indoor pool. I was told Mr. Ken had a good talk with the boy, and then the boy took the test and passed with flying colors. Even adults have to take the test," explained Billy.

"Come on, let me show you more of The Cove," spoke up Billy, who then led his friends out of the indoor pool area.

Billy took Brett and Kaden back out into the Great Room and told them what he knew of that room. He showed them where he was told Mr. Ken was shot when the men attacked the Cove looking for Collin Wilkinson. Just that revelation caused both friends to ask a number of questions Billy had no answers for.

Mr. Wayne had come inside looking for Bill and his friends, and heard them talking about the attack of that day after Thanksgiving. He heard Billy tell his friends he didn't know the full story and he wasn't going to speculate.

"That is a very good answer, Bill," called out the Estate Master.

"You came looking for Bill? What, Mr. Ken doesn't trust him with his friends inside his house?" sarcastically throw out Kaden.

"Not at all. The rest of the boys are getting ready to leave. I was looking for Bill to tell him we'll be going out to dinner soon," replied Mr. Wayne.

"Is it that late already?" asked Billy.

"Yes, time goes by fast when you're having fun ... and an Easter Egg Roll," laughed Mr. Wayne.

"I'll have to show you around some more the next time you come over," offered Billy.

"So, we can come over tomorrow?" asked Kaden.

"No, not tomorrow," answered Mr. Wayne. "Tomorrow is a family day. The boy's friends were told last weekend that no one would be here. Bill was still new to The Cove and may have missed that pronouncement. I guess you'll have to wait until the following weekend," offered the Estate Master.

Billy, Brett, and Kaden walked up the curved staircase to the Foyer and walked out the door. The three joined the rest of the boys as they walked up to the Main Gate. At the gate, Mr. Ken introduced Bill to the parents who hadn't met the teen earlier.

The two teens then introduced their parents to Mr. Ken. They made the normal pleasantries and exchanged phone numbers after the owner of The Cove told the parents their boys could continue to visit The Cove as long as they behaved themselves, and participated in the things they do there as they had done for the Easter Egg Roll.

That started another conversation between Billy's friends' parents and the other parents who were there to collect their own boys. This was what typically happened when the parents met new parents and their boys. A gabfest at the gate ensued.

No one was in a hurry to leave. Tomorrow was Easter Sunday and they all talked about what the Easter Bunny was bringing the boys. That brought a lot of laughs from everyone who was there.

Mr. Ken finally told the gathered group that he and his 'boys' were soon off to dinner and they needed to wash their face and hands. One parent asked if they were going to wash their hands up to their elbows. That brought up a roar of laughter.

Billy's friends had no idea what that was all about and asked Billy about it. Billy told them he'd have to explain it on Monday at school. The two friends told their friend that there sure was a lot for him to explain to them on Monday. The three teens all laughed.

The Covers finally got to go to dinner. They ate on the restaurant side of the Four Corners eatery and they all got steak. The conversation centered on the Easter Egg Roll and its pros and cons. The boys all said they enjoyed the day, even though there was a lot of work to do for it.

After dinner, they all converged on their favorite ice cream store before heading home. Banana splits were had by all. Bill was again chosen by Mr. Ken to get Chief her treat before they departed.

"Chief ... I have your cup of ice cream," called out Billy as he entered the Kitchen Nook. Chief was already there, but the teen wanted to make it seem to the others as though she wasn't. Chief barked up a storm and Bill put the treat on the floor for the resident pet to lap up in record time.

Mr. Ken suggested to his 'boys' for them to drain their dragons and meet him in the Study. All eight Covers headed in different directions to do just that. About ten minutes later, all of the Covers were sitting and waiting in the Study to do what they usually did there. Talk.

It remained quiet in the study for a few moments with everyone sort of sitting on pins and needles. No one wanted to start the conversation. Mr. Wayne had no idea what was going on, so he asked Mr. Ken. The owner of The Cove asked the Estate Master to hold on and wait and see, but to also keep his ears open.

Just then the doorbell rang. Mr. Ken got up and told the others to stay seated as he wanted to answer the door. A few moments later 'dad' Ken and Mr. Dan, still dressed in his Sheriff's Lieutenant's uniform, entered the Study.

"Dan, let me introduce you to my newest foster son. Bill, please stand up," asked Mr. Ken.

"Is ... is he here to ... to arrest me? I didn't do anything wrong, I swear," exclaimed Bill Dirketson.

"No, Bill, Lieutenant Fischer is here to meet you, finally. He is a good friend and a trusted member of The Cove. He even has his own key and passcode. I asked him here to listen to what you're going to tell us about you knowing Charles," answered Mr. Ken.

"Dan, this is Bill Dirketson. Judy called and asked me and the boys to take on another boy. Bill came to us about ten days ago and just today I learned he knew who Charles was back when he still lived with his mom and step-dad. Take a seat and stay as long as you can," said Mr. Ken.

"Bill, your knowing Charles is a big revelation to all of us," opened up Mr. Ken.

That was the first time Wayne Mitchell heard that Bill and Charles knew one another. He wanted to ask some questions, but his employer asked him to wait until Bill told us everything he knew.

Bill stood there and looked around at everyone who was seated there in the Study. He never thought it would come to this after his telling Charlie, Charles, that he knew him. That was one thing he never considered as he thought that through. He figured he and Charles would find a quiet place to talk and then do just that, talk.

Bill, now found himself in front of his foster dad, his 'brothers', and the Estate Master, Mr. Wayne, The new wrinkle was a new man, a Sheriff's Lieutenant, a Mr. Dan that Mr. Ken knew and obviously very well, since he invited him to sit in on what he was going to tell them.

"Bill, if you would start, please," spoke up Mr. Ken.

"Well, I think I told you everything this morning when Charles and I came into your Study. I don't know what else you want me to say," said a confused Bill Dirketson.

"Bill, I want you to tell all your 'brothers', Mr. Dan and Mr. Wayne what you did tell me this morning. And, maybe, just maybe, you'll remember something that you didn't tell me, us, then," explained foster dad, Mr. Ken.

"Well ... when I first arrived here, I thought ... I thought I recognized Charles, but I wasn't really sure. It had been about two to two and a half years since I'd seen him last, and ... and he has grown since the last time I saw him.

"It wasn't ... it wasn't until the other night at dinner that ... well, that I took a real good look at him and it was then I decided that I did know Charles. So, this morning ... I looked for a good time to talk to him.

"Charles was the last of my 'brothers' going down to the Kitchen Nook for breakfast, so I called to him. He stayed back and asked me what I wanted. I told Charles that my step-dad ... that he was killed in that shootout last summer.

"I told him my step-dad knew his mom and I'd seen him a time or two, but we never talked. I told him I thought I recognized him when I first came here to live, but ... but I wasn't sure. Then, I told him that the more I studied him the more I knew who he was.

"We did talk a little. He wanted to know why he'd never seen me or even met me. I told him my step-dad ... that he would never let me out of the car. I explained my step-dad always ... that he always told me to slip down below the windows and not look.

"But, you know, being a kid, I told Charles that I looked anyway. I explained to my 'brother', that was how I saw him and why he didn't see me. I told him I also heard his mom had been arrested for using and dealing drugs and geez ... was Smokey ever pissed.

"Charles asked me who my step-dad was and I told him it was Jody Franks. I then asked him why he wanted to know. Charles wanted to know if it was 'Greaser'. I told him it was and it was then Charles told me we needed to tell Mr. Ken. And, that was what we did. We came down here to the Study and Charles asked Mr. Ken why Ms. Judy brought me here," finished Bill.

As Bill ended his story, everyone could see the tears streaming down his cheeks. Mr. Ken saw then as well, so he got up from behind his desk and grabbed the teen. Foster dad Ken hugged the boy to him and the teen almost melted into his shoulder.

"Please don't send me away, Mr. Ken. Please, don't!" cried Bill Dirketson.

No one said a word. Kevin and Kyle wondered out loud what the big deal was that Billy and Charles once knew one another. Robert quietly told them that Billy knew who Charles was but Charles had never met him. The twins then went into 'twin talk mode' and discussed it between themselves.

Mr. Ken got Bill settled and had him sit down. 'Dad' Ken then asked everyone if they had questions for Bill. The boys looked around at one another, but it was Mr. Dan who spoke up.

"Bill ... let me ask ... did you ever have to run drugs and collect the money as Charles did for his mom?" asked Lt. Dan Fischer.

"NO! I was never made to do that. Both my mom and step-dad only used marijuana, well, mainly only that. But that was during the week. On the weekend they used some of the harder drugs they dealt," replied Bill.

"Bill ... your dad Jody Franks ... was he a supplier or a dealer, or both?" directly asked Lt. Dan.

"Jody Franks was my step-dad! NOT, my dad!" corrected Bill, in a loud voice.

"OK, sorry. So ... can you tell me what position in the local drug business your step-dad was?" asked Sheriff's, Lieutenant Dan Fischer.

"Well, 'Greaser' held drugs for 'Smokey' and delivered them to other people who sold them for 'Smokey'. At least that is what I thought I saw. I never saw strange people come to the house and leave with a package.

"Only 'Smokey', 'Spider', 'Chickee' and 'Butcher' ever came to the home, and when they did they usually brought drugs for my mom and 'Greaser' to store and then deliver. If my mom and step-dad ever sold the drugs I never saw them do that right from the house," revealed Bill.

"Bill ... why were you with 'Greaser' when you saw Charles?" simply asked Lt. Dan.

"There were a few times after 'Smokey' started dating Gina, Charles' mom, which they'd all meet together to discuss deliveries and drop places. I was only going on eleven, back then, and I knew what they were doing was illegal, but Jody pulled me aside and ... and told me that if I ever talked, I'd never see my mom again.

"I didn't know what that meant, but ... well, I figured he'd either kill me or ... or my mom. I knew he had a number of guns in the house, so ... so, I never said a word to anyone. I didn't want to die or have my mom killed because of me," replied Bill, who began to sniffle because of all the questions the Sheriff's officer was asking.

"Bill ... do you know where the drop places are, or were?" asked Lt. Dan.

"No, I never went with Jody when he dropped drugs off for his customers. That's what he called them, his customers," replied Bill.

"But, you do know where they met occasionally to talk business. Right?" asked the Lieutenant.

"Well, I guess if I saw the places again, I'd ... I'd probably remember them, but ... I don't know where they were. I was too young to know where we were going and I didn't go all the time. Sometimes my mom and Jody ... they went together, so they had to take me. But most of the time, 'Greaser' went by himself," replied Bill.

"Bill, I need to get back on patrol, but ... I may want to talk to you again, and if I do, I'll talk to Mr. Ken here, first. I may also bring some detectives. They'll want to ask you a few questions about what you knew about your stepdad's activities.

"Bill, I want to thank you for answering my questions. I also want to tell you that you've come to a good place. Mr. Ken, here, will do whatever it will take to ensure that you have a good home, food and clothes.

"I heard you earlier call Charles your 'brother', so I take it you are also calling the other boys your 'brothers', as well. To me, that means you have begun to adjust to living here at The Cove, and before long you'll consider this your home. Take care, young man and let Mr. Ken help you," finished Lt. Dan, who then walked out of the Study, with Mr. Ken quickly following behind him.

At the Foyer Door, Mr. Ken asked his friend, "What do you think, Dan?"

"Well, he answered straight away and ... and I never felt him hesitate or shy away from answering my questions. He may know more than he said, but with him being only ten or eleven, when he saw Charles, he might not be aware of what he does know. Just, maybe?

"But, as for Bill, he's only been in the system for less than a year, so, as I said, he may know something like Charles did. But they may have already questioned him when they took him into the system. That will be up to Matthias and Roberts to decide if they want to talk to the teen. I got to go, Ken. Let's talk later," offered Dan Fischer.

"Dan ... I am leaving Monday for a week of visits to my amusement parks. Wayne will be in charge while I'm gone. He can help you if you want him to, or maybe you can wait until I return," suggested Ken Thomas.

"Ken ... are you going to send the teen away?" asked Dan,

"No. I don't think sending him away would be good for him. And besides, he did tell me outright this morning about his knowing Charles. He and I will talk some more tomorrow, if I have the time. I'll catch up with you in about a week. Drive safe, Dan," chuckled Ken, as he sent Dan on his way.

"When Mr. Ken returned to the Study, it was still very quiet. He told everyone to liven it up and that he was not going to send their older 'brother' away. Upon hearing that Bill was very relieved. Mr. Wayne was still confused over the whole incident even though he heard what everyone else did. The Estate Master figured he'd talk to Mr. Ken when he had the opportunity.

"Boys ... what you heard tonight is private. It is equal to the reason why you are all living with me and is NOT to be discussed with any of your friends. Even though Bill knew who Charles was, remember, they never interacted with one another.

"Boys ... don't bug them about this. It will be up to them to decide if they want to talk about what they may or may not know about that man 'Smokey' and Charles' mom and Bill's step-dad. Just like you may have shared with one another about the reason you're living here, let them decide if they are going to share with you in the future. Any questions?" asked 'dad' Ken.

When none of the boys had any questions, 'dad' Ken asked who was ready for some ice cream. The younger boys shouted they were while the older three just raised their hands. Mr. Ken asked Wayne to go out to the Kitchen Nook and get the ice cream out of the freezer. He then asked his son to go out with the man and get all the toppings from the pantry.

"'Dad', why didn't we go to Dairy Queen?" asked Matthew, just before he put a big spoonful of ice cream into his mouth

"Well, to be honest ... it is getting late and I do believe many stores closed early tonight since it is the day before Easter. Plus, we need to eat this up so Momma can buy us some more," laughed 'dad' Ken, as he himself put a spoonful of ice cream into his own mouth.

As the Covers ate their self-made ice cream concoctions, Kevin asked if the Easter Bunny would visit them tonight. When 'dad' Ken asked him why he wanted to know, Kevin said they hadn't had any Easter baskets the last two years. The older twin then began to cry.

Kyle got to his twin first and hugged him tight. Mr. Ken got there next and hugged the twins while telling them they just needed to wait and see if the Easter Bunny did stop by.

Robert was going to tell the twins that last Easter he had big baskets of Easter candy waiting for him when he awoke his first Easter there at The Cove. The teen's dad figured he would say something, so he looked at his son and shook his head to indicate not to say anything.

After the Covers finished their ice cream treats, they all rinsed their bowls, spoons and the ice cream dipper and placed them into the dishwasher. 'Dad' Ken them sent the boys up to bed to relax and told them that he and Mr. Wayne would stop by their rooms before too long.

Bill hung behind and when all his 'brothers' had gone up the stairs he told Mr. Ken he was sorry for not saying something sooner. Mr. Ken told the teen he accepted his explanation as to why he waited and for the boy not to worry about it.

Bill then asked if the man meant it that he wasn't going to send him away. Mr. Ken smiled at the teen and then pulled the soon to be fifteen-year-old to him and hugged him. Mr. Ken assured the teenager he wasn't going to send him away because of what he learned today.

Mr. Ken did remind the boy he needed to be honest and truthful about things he may know about 'Smokey' and his gang, to include his step-dad, if he hadn't already told the authorities. Bill said he would and then thanked the man for letting him remain at The Cove.

It was about fifteen minutes after the five boys went up to their rooms that 'dad' Ken and Mr. Wayne went up to say goodnight to them. They started at Matthew's room who asked if the Easter Bunny was going to visit them. All 'dad' Ken would say was for him to wait and see.

Mr. Wayne then tucked the youngest Cover into his bed.

The men visited the twins' bedroom next and had gotten the same question. He gave the same answer he had down in the Kitchen Nook. 'Dad' Ken then tucked the boys into bed and also kissed them on the foreheads.

Charles was waiting for his 'dad' to stop at his room. The pre-teen wanted to ask if he really wasn't going to send Billy away. When 'dad' Ken asked him why he wanted to know, Charles said he didn't think he should.

'Dad' Ken assured the pre-teen he wouldn't. The man then hugged the boy and then tucked him into his bed. The 'dad' then kissed the boy on his forehead and said goodnight.

Robert was reading when his dad came into his room. The teen sat up and waited for his dad to sit beside him on the bed. The two hugged and then the teen thanked his dad for not sending Billy away.

The teen's dad, in return, thanked his son for not telling the boys about his first Easter at The Cove. The two laughed at that and then dad Ken hugged his son and had him get under the covers. The man then kissed his son on his forehead before leaving to stop at Bill's room.

Mr. Ken and Mr. Wayne did the Three-Knock Rule at the oldest teen's bedroom. Bill knew they were coming, so he had left the door open for them. The teen's foster dad asked Bill if he was going to be OK after all that happened in the Study. Bill said he was just happy that he wasn't being sent away. The two hugged and the man told Bill to get into bed and he'd see him in the morning.

Mr. Wayne helped his employer to finish getting all the Easter Baskets filled and ready to take down to the Great Room. While they worked on the baskets, Mr. Wayne asked his boss more about the revelation that Bill knew Charles. Mr. Ken told him what he knew which was what they all heard in the Study earlier.

Mr. Wayne thought there was more to it and told his employer that. Mr. Ken said he thought there could be more after Bill and Charles talk some more. But he said he didn't think anything substantial would ever arise from the fact that Bill knew Charles. The owner of the Cove added that it was obvious the pre-teen didn't know the teenager.

The men finished getting the Easter Baskets put together and down in the Great Room. They even made up a basket for Chief that was full of chew bones and doggie treats. They soon said goodnight to one another and went on to bed.
