"Wake Up! Wake UP!" cried out Kevin, after he saw, from the top of the stairs, all the Easter baskets and candy spread out all over the Great Room.
The older twin went to his twin brother and shook him awake and then walked into his other 'brothers' rooms yelling, "Wake UP! Wake UP! The Easter Bunny was here. Come on get up!"
Kevin was so stoked that there might be an Easter basket down there for him and he wanted all his 'brothers' to see if they got one, as well.
Billy didn't appreciate Kevin running into his room and yelling for him to get up. He was in the middle of a great dream and he lost all of it when he was so rudely awakened. But the older Cover teen did get out of bed. He was somewhat curious to see what the Easter Bunny brought all of them.
Robert heard Kevin come running and yelling into his room. The teen was curious to see what his dad bought him and all of his 'brothers'. The teen put on his running shorts and t-shirt and headed to the bathroom to relieve the pressure on his bladder. When he arrived, Billy was already there using one of the porcelain gods.
Charles and Kyle weren't too far behind. Actually, they were there waiting in line hoping their older 'brothers' would hurry up and drain their dragons, so they could get in there and do the same.
It wasn't quite eight o'clock in the morning when the boys headed down the stairs to see what the Easter Bunny had brought. Chief led the boys down the stairs, but Kevin was side-by-side with her, as he was so hyper that the Easter Bunny had come.
When the boys got to the Great Room, Kevin ran around all the big piles of Easter baskets trying to see whose names were on them. When he found one with his name he yelled, "YES! I got a mother lode of candy."
"Who got a what?" was heard from the top of the stairs.
"A Mother Lode, 'dad'," called back Kevin. "Come down and see what the Easter Bunny got us!" enthusiastically called back Kevin.
Mr. Ken said for them to wait for him as he wanted to get his first cup of coffee. It was then Mr. Wayne appeared and Kevin called for him to come down to see what they all got from the Easter Bunny. Mr. Wayne said he was going to get a cup of coffee first, as well.
Ten minutes later all of the Covers were down in the Great Room with the boys standing next to their Easter haul. 'Dad' Ken told them, "What are you waiting for? Check 'em out!"
Kevin was the first to rip open the cellophane off the biggest basket he'd gotten, to see what was inside. He could already see all the candy spread around all of the big baskets. He just wanted to see what was hiding inside the biggest one.
The other five boys weren't as enthusiastic as Kevin, but they began to look through their baskets, too. Kyle and Matthew started to eat some of the candy and 'dad' Ken told them not to eat too much as they hadn't had breakfast yet.
Billy was initially shocked that he had his own Easter Basket, too. He couldn't remember the last time his mom gave him even one. Sure, his mom set out a bowl filled with Easter straw and then placed lots of small pieces of candy on top of the straw. But what he had in front of him was a good twenty times what she had set out. The biggest surprise was he'd gotten a cell phone just like his 'brothers'.
"Thank you, Mr. Ken. You ... you told me I'd get a cell phone after about two weeks, but this ... this was totally unsuspected. Thank you, again," offered Billy, with a big smile on his face.
The foster dad told the teenager to get with Robert to help him set it up and then pair it with The Cove's WiFi. The man then reminded both teens the password was not to be shared with anyone who is not a Cover. Bill got a question on his face, but Robert told him he would explain it to him later.
Robert knew his dad would give them all Easter Baskets. He just didn't know how much his dad would actually get them all. The teen saw Billy didn't have as much as he had and when he looked over at his 'brothers' he could see the younger boys got more as their ages got lower.
Charles felt a lot like Billy did. He couldn't remember the last time his mom gave him an Easter Basket, let alone Easter candy for the home. He was just mesmerized by what was in front of him. He heard someone call out to him to see what was inside his baskets, so he took one and began to rip the cellophane off of it.
Kyle had just as many Easter goodies as his twin. But he started looking inside the baskets as he got to them. He didn't care if he started at the biggest and worked his way down to the smallest.
Matthew was in the same awe as Billy and Charles were. The last time he remembered getting an Easter Basket, he was maybe five. At least that was the age he remembered his dad ran away from him and his mom and that was the last time he had gotten anything for Easter.
Kevin tore open all of his baskets. He placed the small plush animals in one basket and then put the similar candy into another. It was then he said that this was easier than Halloween as he didn't have to walk forever and he didn't have to beg people for candy. That brought the Great Room into a round of loud laughter.
"Dad, did ... did the Easter Bunny ... did she mean to give me two boxes of 9mm bullets?" called out Robert.
Hearing what Robert just said caused Billy to look over to his 'brother' to see if that was what he actually had in his hand. Then, seeing the two boxes of ammo in his hands, he went over to look at them.
"Mr. Ken ... why would you get Robert ammunition? Does he, and my other 'brothers' ... do they each have a gun? And, if they do, will ... will I get one, too?" asked Billy out right.
Mr. Wayne looked over to his employer to see how he was going to answer the teenager. But Kevin, he beat him to it when the older twin told Billy that Robert had gotten his dad's gun from the DA. The adults and the boys all stopped what they were doing when they heard Kevin's pronouncement.
While the adults looked back and forth to one another, Kevin realized that what he said was not something he should have spoken about. His mouth opened wide upon his realization of what he said and then he ran from the Great Room up the two flights of stairs to his bedroom.
"Bill ... yes, my son, he has a gun. It is a Glock 26 Gen3 9mm pistol ...," but that was all he got out before he was interrupted by Robert.
"Bill ... my dad, my birth dad, he ... he was arrested, and ... and he is now in prison. The courts ... they let me take anything I wanted from my old home before it was sold to settle his debts. We found the gun in the house, but the DA kept it to see if it was used in any unsolved crimes. It wasn't, so my dad's lawyer ... he asked for it back for me.
"I've only shot the Glock a few times. I guess my dad is telling me with these boxes of ammo that we're going to shoot it again, soon. But not next week as he will be gone. I can't wait until I get to do that again. Now, I'm going to find my 'brother' and talk to him," finished Robert.
As the teenager walked up the stairs towards the boy's bedrooms, Mr. Ken told Bill that none of his other 'brothers' have a gun and, for now, they will not get one, including him. The foster dad added that the gun is locked away in his gun safe that only he has the combination and that even Mr. Wayne doesn't know it.
"Will I ... will I ever get the chance to shoot it?" asked a curious Billy.
"I'm sorry Bill, but no. I will only allow my son to shoot it and only under my, Mr. Dan's, or Mr. Wayne's supervision. I would ask you not to spread around the fact that Robert does own a gun and that his dad is in prison. His friends know about the gun and his dad. I just don't want to have to answer more misguided questions or explain to nosey parents," said Mr. Ken, as he got up to head upstairs.
Upstairs, Robert found Kevin in his room on his bed, crying. The teen tried to comfort his 'brother' by telling the twin everything will be okay. The teen told Kevin that everyone knew he had a gun, except Billy, and now he knew, too.
Kevin sat up to look at his 'brother'. The older twin argued that Billy didn't know about the DA and now, that he opened his big mouth, he does. Kevin apologized to the teenager and hoped he wouldn't be too mad at him. Robert hugged the twelve-year-old and told him he wouldn't.
It was then 'dad' Ken came into the room. He told Kevin he won't be mad at him, either. That put a smile on the twin. The man told the two Covers that he talked to Bill and asked him not to talk about the gun and about Robert's dad to his friends.
'Dad' Ken told the boys that Robert's friends knew about his dad and the gun, so there wasn't anything to be concerned about. He then hugged both boys. The man then told the boys go back down to the Great Room and continue to look over what the Easter Bunny brought them.
All six boys looked thoroughly through their Easter haul. They compared what they received with one another and saw that many of the items were the same, but there were a few differences. The younger boys received small plush animals in their baskets while the older boys received plastic models to build. Bill also received his cell phone, which matched what the other Cover boys had.
On the other hand, Robert and Charles also received gift cards to add more minutes, texts and download data for their cell phones. Kyle wanted to know why the rest of them didn't get the cell phone gift card. 'Dad' Ken told him that they didn't use their phones all that much and that they'd just gotten the phones at Christmas. Billy just stood back and listened.
'Dad' Ken sent the boys up to get cleaned up and dressed in school clothes to go out to lunch. The adults then did the same. The Covers all met in the MRS Room at 12 noon. From there they headed over to the Four Corners Restaurant for lunch.
Mr. Ken asked them to eat as if it were dinnertime and to order a nice steak and the sides they wanted. The man added that for dinner they'd either burn some burgers or go out to a place where they usually didn't eat. They boys smiled at hearing that.
After they ate, the boys wanted to drive the Go-Karts, but 'dad' Ken said they needed to let their heavy meal settle some before they sat all scrunched up in those tight seated karts. Mr. Wayne then suggested they play a round of mini-golf and by the time they were finished, they should be good to drive the karts. The group of eight walked over to the Miniature Golf Course.
As they stood in line to get their putters and colored golf balls, Billy whispered to Robert and asked if that was where they found Matthew. The youngest Cover heard the softly spoken question. He thought about it and then decided he should respond before his older 'brother' told him.
"Billy ... everyone else knows so ... so there is no reason that you shouldn't know it too. You see, my mom ... my mom and her boyfriend ... they dropped me off one morning here at the Miniature Golf Course and they didn't come back to get me. When 'dad' Ken and Mr. Dan saw me sitting on the bench they came over to talk to me.
"The short story is that "dad' ... he asked me if I was hungry and after telling him I was, he sent Robert to buy me a hot dog and soda. It was after I spilled my soda that Mr. Dan ... he touched my back to tell me everything would be OK. It was then that I ... that I winced it hurt so bad.
"They made some phone calls and before I knew it, I ... I was being taken to the hospital. They saw my back ... that I had been beaten, so they took me up to a hospital room and put some gel on my back. It made it feel really cool and good. Then, for the next few days 'dad' brought Kyle over to talk to me.
"Then, one night, 'dad' brought Charles, Kevin and Kyle over to talk with me and play some games. While they were there, we watched the police arrest my mom and her boyfriend who we learned had come to the hospital to kidnap me. Since then, I've lived with Mr. Ken.
"Then one day, after my appointment with Doctor Doug, I went to the restroom, as I always did before we went home. It was then my mom, who was out on something called bail, came to talk to me even though she wasn't supposed to. Anyway, she took me to this far away restroom and talked to me.
"She told me things and called me things and then she tried to kidnap me, again. It was when she told me she was going to 'Kill me for talking to the police' that I used my coin. It's like the one 'dad' gave you. I squeezed it like 'dad' told us to, and ... and it saved me from her and Lincoln," finished Matthew.
Hearing Lincoln's name, Billy innocently asked his youngest 'brother' if he was one of the men that tried to rob the armored truck. Matthew didn't know if he should talk about it, so he went over to his 'dad' and told him what Billy just asked him.
Mr. Ken called Bill over to him and Mr. Wayne. The foster dad asked Bill what it was he wanted to know about Lincoln. The newest Cover told the man what he asked Matthew. The foster dad thought about the question and then asked the teenager if they could talk about it in the privacy of the Study later.
Mr. Ken told the teen that it was a complicated situation and that it would be best if they could sit and talk about it there when it would be quieter and more private. Charles heard what Matthew said to Bill and what his 'dad just said, so he asked if they all could be included in the talk. He reasoned that it would clarify what they all knew, too.
'Dad' Ken told the pre-teen he'd think about it. Then, he told everyone to get their putters as it was almost their turn to play. As there were eight of them, they split into two groups of four. The teams were the two adults and two older teens on one team and then the rest of the Covers filled in the second team.
The younger boys were playing for bragging rights. They lined up their shots as carefully as they could and they took their time putting. The older Covers were behind them and they were just out there to have fun, so they told them to "Hurry it up!" and often.
By the time the young Covers were finished they were all tied and the eighteenth hole would be the deciding factor. They putted by age, so Matthew went first. He shot a two as did both of the twins. Charles could win it all if he got a Hole-In-One. When he lined up his putt, he was sure he'd get the Free Game and win 'bragging rights'. Everyone was quiet and watched as the ball went directly towards the cup.
Once back at The Cove, Billy gave Chief her ice cream cup. After she lapped it all up she thanked Billy by giving him her kisses and then rolling on the Kitchen Nook floor with him, as he wrestled with her.
Mr. Ken and Mr. Wayne, along with Bill, went to the Study to talk about Matthew and the question the newest Cover had about Lincoln. The other Covers followed along and waited at the Study door hoping they would be invited in. After some quiet conversation with Bill about allowing his 'brothers' to sit in, the rest of the Covers were invited into the Study.
"Bill," began Mr. Ken, "Matthew told you the gist of the how and why he is living with us here at The Cove. His mom's boyfriend ... he used him as a whipping boy ... whenever he didn't like what Matthew did. Whatever Matthew said to the man or did the night before made Lincoln go off on Matthew's back."
"Yeah, you should have seen it. It was terrible," added Kyle. "I helped him take his clothes off at the Emergency Room, so I got to see it before they began to help him."
"His mom and Lincoln were in jail, but Grace made bail and somehow she learned where Matthew lived. She was supposed to get Court approved visits, but instead she had him followed. When she knew her son would be at Doctor Doug's ... she went to talk to him," continued Mr. Ken.
"I don't know what she told him, but ... when we talked ... all Matthew could say was she was going to ... kill him. She was rearrested at the time and is still awaiting trial. As for Lincoln ... he's been arrested for a number of previous robberies he's being accused of. His latest arrest was for helping three other men who together attempted to rob an armored truck containing about $20 million," finished Mr. Ken.
"But ... but why would Matthew's mom ... why would she want to ... to kill him?" asked Billy.
Matthew quickly spoke up and said, "It's because she thought ... she thought I knew something and they ... and they didn't want me to tell the police."
"But you did, didn't you?" asked Billy. "The news said that someone ... that someone here at The Cove told the police about the attempted armored truck robbery, but they didn't ever release the name."
"Bill, please drop it. You know the majority of the story and ... well, only a very few know any more," directed Mr. Ken.
Bill realized he overstepped his bounds and agreed he'd drop asking any more about who at The Cove talked to the police. The other boys knew the whole story, but they knew they weren't supposed to tell anyone's story unless the person it happened to agreed. Right now, they heard their 'dad's' tone of voice and knew to keep quiet.
"But 'dad', all of our friends know. So, why shouldn't Billy?" asked Matthew.
'Dad' Ken thought about what Matthew just said, and then decided to tell Bill about Matthew's dreams and how his friends helped him interpret them. As he told the story, Matthew added details that his 'dad' had forgotten or missed.
When the telling was over, Mr. Ken asked Bill not to discuss what he knew about the attempted robbery with any of his friends, as the trials had not been scheduled, and he didn't want any undue attention on Matthew, until then. Billy said he totally understood and wouldn't say anything to anyone.
Once the discussion about Matthew was over, 'dad' Ken reminded the boys he would be leaving in the morning and wouldn't return until late Friday night. He told his 'sons' that Mr. Wayne, Mr. Chris and Mr. Dan all had his contact information and if an emergency occurred, they would call him.
'Dad' Ken then told the boys his plane was scheduled to take off at 7 a.m. and he would not be at the kitchen table when they came down for breakfast. Hearing that caused a ruckus in the Study between the boys.
Dad' Ken told the boys he was on a whirlwind trip and needed to get back east as quickly as he could in order to visit all four parks. The boys didn't want to hear that, but 'dad' Ken reminded them that was only the first of many trips he would be taking from now on.
The boys went to their rooms to settle down after their talk in the Study. And since 'dad' Ken had to get up very early, he made sure he said his goodnights to them before going to his private retreat to finish packing and get to bed.
Mr. Wayne would remain up until the boys were all in their beds before he went to bed himself. He knew he needed to be up by 6:30 a.m. and that time of day came early, and he wasn't used to getting up that early at all.
When the Estate Master came downstairs that Monday morning, his employer was already gone and had been for at least an hour. Traffic wasn't too bad at 5:30 in the morning.
Momma Maria was ready with Mr. Wayne's first cup of coffee and she commented that it was different with Mr. Ken not there reading his morning paper. Hearing that, Mr. Wayne took the plastic sleeve off the newspaper, and began reading it like the man would.
It wasn't long after the man began reading the morning newsprint that the boys came into the Kitchen Nook. They all said "Good morning" to the Estate Master and Momma Maria and then sat down and waited for breakfast.
"Boy, this feels so different with 'dad' not here," offered Matthew, to no one in particular. "I sure hope his plane doesn't have any problems like we did coming back from his amusement parks."
The other boys knew Matthew was still a bit concerned about flying, so none of them added to the boy's angst by talking about it. They all ate what Momma Maria made for them that morning. As they boys ate, Mr. Wayne reminded which boy had their doctor appointment that week and that he'd be there to take them.
Billy came down for breakfast around 7:30. The older teen said 'Good morning' to Mr. Wayne and Momma Maria. He then went and took care of Chief. He got the resident pet fresh water and kibble before sitting down to a Momma breakfast.
"Bill, this is new for you with Mr. Ken not being here. If you have any problems or you need me for any reason please don't hesitate to talk to me. I am a licensed Foster Parent and have the same authority as Mr. Ken when he is out of the area. And, hopefully, you won't need to make one of your classmates 'play nice'," laughed Mr. Wayne.
Bill chuckled at the joke the Estate Master made and told the man he would try not to have to use his persuasive techniques today. The two Covers laughed together at that pronouncement. Mr. Wayne then reminded Bill he had his doctor appointment that Thursday.
At school, Billy was met by Brett and he had someone new with him. Billy's friend introduced Lonnie to him and the two shook hands. Lonnie then mentioned what Brett told him about the Easter Egg Roll and lamented that he would have loved to have been there.
The three high school freshmen walked to a quiet area and Brett and Billy talked about how the Egg Roll went. Lonnie listened to what was said and told the two teens that he never heard of anything like that where he came from. That brought about some more conversation which continued until the first bell. The three freshmen agreed to meet at lunch and talk some more.
Kaden came over to Billy as they walked to their first class. Billy asked his friend where he was, and Kaden said he was stopped by some of his other friends and just couldn't get away. Billy mentioned his meeting Lonnie and the two did talk some about the new friend.
At lunch, the four freshmen met and the conversation centered on the Easter Egg Roll. Lonnie was still mesmerized over what Billy, Brett and Kaden told him that happened on Saturday and he asked loads of questions. Lonnie was also curious about Three Finger Cove and asked if he'd ever get the chance to see what it was all about.
Billy asked Lonnie for his last name and home phone number and explained his foster dad would have to approve his coming over. Billy also asked Lonnie outright if he used drugs. That immediately surprised the teen and he was taken aback at the question.
Brett explained that Mr. Ken has five young boys at his house and he doesn't want drug users or suppliers coming to the estate. Kaden spoke up and told Lonnie he felt the same way when Billy asked him the same question. He further told the teen that if he didn't use drugs, he had nothing to worry about.
Learning that both Brett and Kaden were asked about their drug use, Lonnie told Billy he'd tried marijuana when he was younger back where he used to live. The new teen then said he honestly didn't use any types of drugs, because he saw what it had done to his uncle and he wanted to have a good family life after he graduated from college.
Just before the after-lunch bell rang, an upper classman, Billy had never met, came over to Kaden and asked to talk to him. Kaden excused himself and walked away with the stranger. Billy asked Brett and Lonnie if they knew who the person was. All Brett could say was that the student was a junior.
Sawyer and a few seniors who were on the Toy Soldier competition stopped by the table and said 'Hi' to Bill. That surprised Lonnie that some seniors knew Billy and he had to ask what that was all about. That started a new dialogue, but before anyone could do any real explaining the after-lunch bell rang.
Ken Thomas arrived at Fantasy Fun Park about 1 p.m. after a long flight and car ride. He met with Joseph Shartz, the parks operating manager. The main topic was the attendance for the Easter weekend and if the new rides were operational. Learning the rides were not yet on-line Mr. Ken wanted to see them. Once there, he asked his operator to explain the problem why they were not yet on-line.
The installation contractor was on site so Mr. Thomas asked to talk to him instead. It was then he learned that weather delays were the major problem. The contractor also said he needed to finish the electrical hookups on all three attractions and then pass a county inspection before they could start testing.
The contractor said it would probably be at least two weeks before the rides were ready for the inspector. The contractor then explained once they passed the inspections, they'd do the testing and training of the maintainers and operators and could be turned over to the park in about four to five weeks depending on the weather.
After school, and enjoying his Momma Maria snack, Billy went looking for Mr. Wayne. The foster teen told the man about meeting a new friend and then gave the information to the Estate Master. Mr. Wayne was a bit surprised at hearing that and figured he'd talk to his boss later that night to ask how to proceed. Billy then went up to his room to start his homework.
Dinner at The Cove that night wasn't as lively as they normally were. The boys did talk about their school day, though. Matthew and Kyle lamented they missed their 'dad' and they hoped he would call later.
When dinner was over the Covers went to the Study to talk as they tended to do. Mr. Wayne did review who had appointments and on what day. Matthew and the twins asked if their 'dad' had called yet and learning he hadn't, they got sullen. Billy asked if he would be able to invite Lonnie over that Saturday. All Mr. Wayne could say was he should hopefully know by Wednesday.
The meeting was short that night, so the boys got more time for their schoolwork. Billy appreciated the extra time, as he wanted to get to bed early, as the weekend was busier than he was used to.
With his visit to Fantasy Fun Park completed, Mr. Ken returned to the airport for his flight to his next amusement park, Discovery Kingdom. The man arrived at his hotel close to nine and it was then he called home to talk to the boys before they went to bed.
About 8 p.m. the phone rang in the Study and when the Estate Master answered it he was glad his boss had called. They got the pleasantries out of the way and before Mr. Ken could ask to talk to the boys Mr. Wayne asked him how he handled Bill's new friend.
The owner of The Cove told his Estate Master to call Jules with the full name and phone number and he would do a background check on the boy and the family. That was the first Wayne ever heard of that being done on the boy's friends, so he asked. The man's employer told his Estate Master that with Bill in high school, he wanted to make sure the teenager wasn't hanging with the wrong crowd.
Mr. Wayne asked if he should do that with the younger boys and all his boss would say was, they would take that on a case by case basis, but would probably do so now that Robert would soon be in high school himself.
Mr. Ken then asked to talk to his 'boys'. Mr. Wayne suggested he call them on their cell phones saying it would be a complete surprise, and, on top of that, they would love to get that special phone call from him. That was what Ken Thomas did.
Robert was the first phone call that dad made. They talked for a few minutes and then Mr. Ken called Charles, next. Charles was surprised at the call, but enjoyed it immensely as it was private and personal. Kyle was disappointed when his twin, Kevin, received a call from their 'dad' first. He stayed in the room while the older twin and 'dad' Ken talked. He was not happy the man called his brother and not him.
After Kevin's call was finished, he stuck his tongue out at his younger brother and began to gloat that he got a call from 'dad' Ken. It was while Kevin tried to upset Kyle that the younger twin's cell phone rang. Recognizing it was his 'dad' he stuck his tongue out at Kevin as he said 'Hello' to Mr. Ken. Kyle's phone call lasted about the same time his twins had. When the younger twin's call was over, the two identical twins compared what they both talked about with 'dad' Ken.
Matthew was the next 'son' 'dad' Ken called. Matthew was startled when his phone rang and was pleasantly surprised it was his 'dad' calling him. The two had a lively conversation as Matthew had to tell his 'dad' how much he missed him and how he couldn't wait until their 'dad' came home.
When their talk was over, Mr. Ken asked Matthew to take his phone over to Bill so he could talk to him. He explained to the young Cover that he didn't know if Bill had activated his phone yet, and if he had he didn't have his cell phone number. Matthew ran over to Billy's room and knocked on the doorframe and then told him why he was there.
Learning it was Mr. Ken on the phone brought a smile to the teen's face. Matthew knew to leave to give them some privacy, but he asked Billy to bring his phone to his room when he was finished. Billy said he would.
Mr. Ken explained why he had Matthew bring the phone to the oldest Cover boy. The man then asked Bill if he had activated his phone, and, if he had, he asked for the phone's number. When that was completed the two Covers had a pleasant talk.
During the talk, Bill apologized for asking those questions about Matthew and causing the man to have to explain it all to him. Bill added that he was trying to learn as much about The Cove as he could, to better understand why things were the way they were. Mr. Ken settled the teen down by telling the teenager that if his demeanor was tense, it was probably because he had way too much on his plate just then.
Here again Billy heard an adult apologizing to him for something he'd done. The teen thanked his foster dad for telling him that, and added he'd never had an adult apologize to him for what they had done and he appreciated it.
Billy then asked about Lonnie and if he would be allowed to come over on Saturday. Mr. Ken told him Mr. Wayne would hopefully give him the answer by breakfast on Wednesday. Billy thanked the man for the late-night talk and hoped he would continue to have a good trip.
When Billy got off the phone, he heard his 'brothers' talking. They were in the twin's bedroom which was across from his. He listened in some and learned they were discussing their phone calls with their 'dad'. Their enthusiasm was apparent as they tried to talk over their 'brothers' to tell them what they and their 'dad' talked about.
"So, Mr. Ken called all of you, I take it," said Billy, as he stood in the doorway.
"He called you, too, Billy!" spoke up Matthew. "He had me take my cell phone to you since he didn't know if you activated your phone yet, and, if you had, he didn't have your phone number. So, what did you and our 'dad' talk about?"
It was then Mr. Wayne came to the twin's bedroom and asked why everyone wasn't in bed relaxing before going to sleep. Kyle told the man they were exchanging with one another what their 'dad' talked to them about. That surprised the Estate Master some, but he knew how much they clung to their 'dad' and any contact, no matter how little, always made the boys feel special.
"OK, boys ... please finish up your discussion and head to your own room. I'll be there in a few minutes," said Mr. Wayne. "Bill, I'll start with you, if you don't mind."
The two older Covers went to Bill's bedroom. There, Mr. Wayne asked the teenager if there was anything, he discussed with Mr. Ken he needed to talk to him about. Bill said there really wasn't although he did say he needed to get Robert to help him activate his phone and pair it with The Cove's WiFi system.
Billy added he also needed to get his phone number to Mr. Ken as tonight he used Matthew's cell phone to talk to his foster dad. Mr. Wayne thanked the teen for the update and talk and then said Goodnight to the boy. The man headed to Robert's room.
Mr. Wayne talked to all the Cover boys before going to bed himself. The boys were all hyped up because of the personal phone calls they received that night. He just hoped they would be able to go to sleep before too long.
As he walked to his bedroom, the man wondered to himself if Mr. Ken would call the boys on all the other nights he was gone. But he soon understood there wasn't anything he could worry about as he had no control over that. He did make a mental reminder to call Jules Diamond tomorrow morning and give him Lonnie's information.
