Three Finger Cove: Billy ~ Book Six

Chapter Seventy~Four

Mr. Ken hurried to the Foyer Door to let the Sheriff's Deputies in so he could learn why the three of them had arrived the way they had. He asked Dan if it was OK for Wayne and Chris to sit in, or would they have to be briefed later.

Deputy Sheriff Lt. Fischer told his friend, Mr. Ken, that it was up to him if they learned first-hand, or from him later. Mr. Ken asked them to stay, so they would hear what was said and not miss something important.

"Now, Dan … what is all this about?" directly asked Ken Thomas.

"Ken … you remember a number of months back when Matthias and Roberts talked to Billy and Charles? … Back then, they brought a number of pictures for them to look at to see if they knew any of the people. Well, Billy knew all the people, but he also asked about a few others that weren't in the picture line-up.

"That perked Matthias and Roberts' interest and they had Billy give them some names and descriptions. Well, they found those men … and they had been watching them. This is where it gets interesting. I'll let Lt. Matthias tell you about it," finished Lt. Fischer.

"Mr. Ken … there were three men that Billy identified for us … that were associated with 'Smokey's' gang. We subsequently found out who they were and we began watching them. We involved other police departments as they seemed to float all over.

"They were mainly active in our area, so the decision was made to conduct the raid in our jurisdiction. Well, last night, we ahh … we raided their place of operation. When we did that, we not only arrested the three men Billy identified for us, but also a number of lesser people who were in their distribution syndicate.

"One of the people we arrested was a complete surprise to all of us. Here is a picture of the person we arrested. See if you know him?" asked Lt. Matthias.

Mr. Ken took a look at the picture. Studied it and then passed it to Wayne to look at. As Mr. Wayne looked over the picture, Mr. Ken pulled out his cell phone and called Billy and told him to come to the Study. He also told him to tell his 'brothers' they were not to come down there. The owner of The Cove then called his son, Charles, and told him to also come to the study as well. He didn't tell either teen why he wanted them there.

Mr. Wayne passed the picture onto Mr. Chris who was totally surprised at who was in it. The two men talked about who they saw and what it might mean for The Cove and the boys. Mr. Ken heard their conversation and told them he didn't expect it to affect the boys at all.

Billy and Charles arrived at the Study at the same time. They were both scared. They had no idea as to why they were called there, because there were three Sheriff's Deputies in the Study, and their 'dad' didn't tell them why he wanted them to come there.

"Boys … have a seat," directed a stern Mr. Ken.

The men talked amongst themselves, as the two teens sat there, still wondering why they were called to the Study. Lt. Matthias kept looking over towards Billy, which made the older teen feel even more scared as to why he was there.

Finally, Lt. Matthias approached Billy and said, "Billy … remember about three months ago … we talked to you and Charles about the people you knew who dealt drugs with your step-dad and mom. We had you look at a picture line-up at the time, and you mentioned to us that there were a few people missing.

"You subsequently gave us the names you knew them as, and their descriptions. Well, we think we found who they are and we have a few pictures we want you to look at to see if these are the people you remember dealing with Jody and your mom," explained the Sheriff's lieutenant.

Detective Sgt. Roberts passed some pictures over to Billy to look over and asked him if he recognized any of the people in them. Billy looked at each of the pictures in the stack, with Charles looking over his shoulder, and as the teen looked at each image, he set aside the ones he felt he recognized.

When Billy was finished looking through the photos, he passed the pictures of the people he thought he recognized back to the sergeant and told him what name he knew them as. Charles said he didn't recognize any of the people.

The Deputies talked to Billy about the people and then told him that they arrested all of the people in the pictures last night during a raid. Lt. Matthias then said he had one more picture he wanted Billy to look at to see if he recognized the person.

Billy then took the handed picture and looked at it. As soon as he did, his eyes lit up and he was astonished at who he saw. Charles also saw who was in the picture and he couldn't believe who it was.

"Are you telling me that … that … Kaden … that he was arrested … during your raid last night?" asked a dumbfounded Billy.

"Yes, son, he was!" matter-of-factly responded Lt. Matthias.

"I … I can't believe it. But …but I guess that would explain why he left early yesterday. The guys said he got a phone call during the afternoon and left before he normally would. We all tried to call him today, and he never answered. Brett even called his home, and no one answered there either," said Billy, to a question that wasn't even asked.

"Dad … is that why you wanted us in here, so we could identify Kaden in the picture? Or … or was it to see if we knew who the other people arrested are?" asked Charles.

"Both, Charles," replied Lt. Matthias. "We talked to you both before and it appears that these people took over from 'Smokey', and have been steadily building up their customer base. As for Kaden … we believe he was the main supplier over at Alvin York high school.

"We have him on video meeting with a number of upperclassmen and passing something off to them. We also raided his home after his arrest and … and we found minor amounts of illegal drugs that will cause him some serious trouble.

"With him being a minor, his name will not make the news, but the raid and the number of arrests will during this evening's newscasts. I am sorry it is one of your friends, Billy," said Lt. Matthias.

"I guess this might explain why Kaden was always talking to upperclassmen, or why they were always coming up to him and pulling him away from our group. There were times he didn't meet up with us until lunch, and a few times he didn't come here until late. I guess he was delivering his drugs," speculated Billy.

"Bill," began Mr. Ken, "your friends … they are all going to wonder why you and Charles were called down here. When you go back out there, try not to be overly dramatic about Kaden's arrest. Just tell them that he was picked up during a police raid, and until he goes to trial, and his disposition is determined, he is presumed innocent.

"And, Bill … Kaden … he will NOT be coming back to The Cove. His name will be deleted from the database, and he is not to be asked inside the estate for any reason. You understand?" asked Mr. Ken.

Billy nodded his head, as he didn't know what to say. He couldn't believe Kaden would be so dumb as to deal with illegal drugs, especially after knowing Mr. Ken's disdain for illegal drugs and the people who use and deal them.

Charles just sat there taking it all in. He too was dumbfounded over all that he just observed and learned. He was no longer scared, as he now knew why his dad had him come to the Study. He just wished he could have told him beforehand, but he realized he couldn't, at the time, because there was too much to be told and explained.

Mr. Wayne and Mr. Chris were no better off than Billy and Charles. They sat back, taking everything in and couldn't believe that one of the boys' friends was not only involved with drugs, but was also part of the distribution group. They both suspected there would be some additional background checks of the boys after this.

None of the boys went swimming that day. They all waited up at the Skate Park for Billy and Charles to return and to hopefully tell them why they had to go down to the house and possibly meet with the three Sheriff Deputies.

The meeting in the Study with the owner of The Cove, his employees and the three Sheriff's Deputies took over an hour. It was well after 4 p.m. when Billy and Charles returned to the Skate Park and Pavilion.

As soon as the two Covers arrived up at the Pavilion, the other boys congregated around them and began asking them questions about why they had to go and talk to the Sheriff's Deputies.

Charles' friends wanted him to talk to them separately, but he told them it was best everyone heard it at the same time, so there would be no misunderstanding as to what was said.

Billy told everyone to have a seat and he would explain what happened down in the Study. After everyone was seated Billy took a big breath and began to tell them why he and Charles were asked down to the Study to talk to the Sheriff's Deputies.

"OK, here goes. Months ago, the detectives … they came and talked to me and Charles. … Oh, geez … I can't tell you why because … well, that goes against Mr. Ken's rules for any one of us telling you why we are living here. I mean I can tell you why I am living here, but … I can't tell you why any of my 'brothers' are living here. This is going to be tough.

"Let me say it this way. Last night, the Sheriff's Deputies … they raided a home, I think it was. At the home … was a number of people and one of them … they thought Charles and I might know. They showed us the picture … and asked us if we knew who the person was.

"Anyway, the person we both recognized was … … it was Kaden," finally said Billy.

Upon hearing the name, the boys all yelled and asked for more information. Brett, Lonnie, Gabe and Jamie were stunned at hearing their friend's name, and that he was arrested during a raid. They now understood why he hadn't come to The Cove today.

Billy did answer the boy's questions, and again explained that his friend, Kaden, was indeed picked up in a drug raid. The Cover teen said that Kaden was innocent until proven guilty, but he would not be coming to The Cove until his disposition was determined. Billy also mentioned that Kaden's name would be deleted from the database.

The boys had many more questions, but Billy told them he couldn't answer them because it would reveal some personal information about his 'brothers', and it wasn't up to him to reveal it to them.

Charles' friends tried to get him to tell them more, but he stuck to his guns as Billy had. Robert watched it all from the background, and was proud of his 'brothers' for not saying any more than they should have.

When Billy wouldn't answer any more of their questions, the boys went back to skating until it was time for them to go home. Billy and his friends did go to a far corner of the Pavilion to talk about Kaden, and what it might mean to their coming to The Cove. Billy told them it shouldn't affect them at all and for them not to be concerned about it.

The teens did talk about how Kaden would show up late for meeting them at school and was always being looked for by or was talking with the upperclassmen. They never thought anything about why their friend might be so friendly with the upperclassmen. But with his arrest and Billy telling them, on the side, about his being videotaped handing them something they now figured he was the drug dealer at their high school.

Kaden's arrest was the talk of all the boys and they continued that as they walked to the Main Gate to meet their parents who came to pick them up at 6 o'clock. Mr. Ken wasn't there so he couldn't answer their many questions, and even if he were, he would have told them to watch the evening news and that was about all he would have been able to tell them anyway.

At dinner, that was the first time Momma was hearing about one of the boys being arrested. As she listened, she learned it was Kaden and he'd been arrested along with a number of drug dealers. She never really liked the teenager, but she could never put her finger on why.

After dinner in the Study, Mr. Ken talked to the boys about Kaden's arrest and how that turn of events could affect them. He told them that they could never really know about their friends and that until something like this happens, they wouldn't find out their friends' deepest secrets.

"Will our friends … will they still be allowed to come over?" asked a tentative Kevin.

"Yes, Kevin they will. And, Boys … I don't have any answers for you … about how to pick and choose your friends. This is uncharted territory for sure. No one could have predicted that Kaden was involved with drug dealers and was distributing the drugs for them," counseled 'dad' Ken.

"Dad … what do we do now?" asked Charles.

"We go about our day as if nothing happened," replied the teen's dad. "Kaden won't be allowed back onto the estate. Period! He made his bed and now he has to lie in it, as the saying goes. Any more questions?

"OK. Now … tell me what you did, while Bill and I were out having fun," teased 'dad' Ken.

Matthew quickly spoke up and told him how he and his friends took the sailboats out and he didn't tip over. Everyone laughed. Robert told his dad that he checked his friends out on the PWCs to make sure they remembered how to start them. He added they slowly rode them back and forth to get reacquainted with the controls.

Charles said he needed him to show him and his friends how to use them, now that they had the training. The teen told his dad that he was anxious to get out on a WaveRunner and have a blast.

Kyle asked his 'dad' if his ice cream store had opened yet. Mr. Ken said it was supposed to have opened while he was gone, but he didn't have the time to check to see if it had. Kevin asked if they could go there tonight and see how good the ice cream tastes. The boys all agreed.

Robert then told his dad that Momma bought that food mandolin he told them about. The teen told the man that Momma had all the boys gather around her at the Pavilion as she demonstrated how to use it as she prepared the tomatoes and onions for their barbeque.

Matthew added that Momma had everyone try the mandolin out and either slice a tomato or an onion. The eleven-year-old said that many of the boys had tears in their eyes after slicing the onions. He added they wondered if adding onions to their burgers was worth all that. Mr. Ken smiled at the telling.

Charles then asked his dad if he remembered he told them they could have a sleepover before the 4th of July Picnic. The teen added that they would like to do it next Tuesday if that would be all right with him, and they would like to do the pizzas, pancakes and sandwiches as they did the last time.

Charles also reminded his dad that he told them he'd also show a movie out on the Patio as he did last year. Robert then quickly asked if they could get a microwave for the pavilion to reheat the bacon before the sleepover, though.

Mr. Ken smiled and replied, "No, I haven't forgotten. Tuesday it is. Tell your friends tomorrow, to bring their sleepover things when they arrive on Tuesday. We'll do the pizzas, pancakes and lunch meats as you did the last time.

"On Monday make sure you have the shopping list ready for Momma and when she goes to get it one or two of you need to go with her. Also, now that the summer is here and there are a lot more boys than last summer, Momma is having to buy twice what she did. So … from now, until the summer is over, I want two of you to go with her every week when she fills your pantry.

"Robert, make a note so we don't forget to have Mr. Chris get you a microwave for the Pavilion on either Monday or Tuesday. If you go with Momma when she goes to get the food for the sleepover, you could add that to her shopping list and that would forgo a separate trip for Mr. Chris. Agreed?" finished the teen's dad.

Robert said he'd do that and that he'd go with Momma when she goes to buy the food for the sleepover. He asked if there were any volunteers. Charles spoke up and volunteered Eric. Everyone laughed.

Before the Covers departed The Cove to try out Mr. Ken's new ice cream store, 'dad' Ken told the boys that the construction trailer will be removed next week. The boys applauded after hearing that.

Their 'dad' then told them that he invited the local Fire Chief to conduct a fire drill with them and that would take place the week after the Picnic. The man told the boys he didn't have the particulars and would leave it up to the Fire Chief to decide what he wanted to do. He said they'd talk more about that later.

Mr. Ken had the boys wash their faces and hands before heading out to the garage to load into the van as they prepared to go out to his new ice cream store. The boys couldn't wait to see what the new store looked like and what flavors of ice cream he had and if he did have banana splits as he said he would.

When the Covers drove into the strip mall, where the new ice cream store was located, the parking lot was quite full. The boys could also see there was a line of people outside the store waiting to go inside. Kevin asked, since Mr. Ken owned it, if they could skip the line. Mr. Ken looked at the older twin and asked, "Really?"

The Covers met some of their school friends in line and they talked about their summer and what they've been doing so far. The Covers had to tell their classmates all about their trip to their 'dad's' amusement parks, and their visit to Edgewood where the Rocket fell off the track.

The boys and girls were intrigued about hearing what the Covers had to say about Edgewood and were surprised that Mr. Ken was still interested in buying it even after the accident. Robert said his dad saw potential there and if he could get it at a good price, he'd buy it. Mr. Ken heard that and inwardly smiled.

The conversation got around to the Cove Skate Park and a few of the Covers classmates asked if they would ever get an invitation to try out the new Cove Skate Park any time soon. Mr. Ken heard the conversation, and he counted the number of boys and girls who were in line and who wanted to stop by the estate and try out the Skate Park.

"If I may," interrupted Mr. Ken, "if you want to stop by tomorrow, around twelve noon, and you can bring one of your parents, so they could sign a release form, then you can try out the new Cove Skate Park. Now, this invitation is for you and you only. I hope you understand.

"I don't want you going home and telling the rest of your class they can stop by. The Skate Park is big, but it isn't so big that it can handle all of the fifth through eighth grades from your school. But it is important that a parent sign a release form required by my insurance company. NO signed form means you can't skate. Agreed?" finished Mr. Ken.

The fourteen boys and girls waiting in line were all smiles when they heard they could come by The Cove to try out the new Cove Skate Park. They all said they understood they needed to have a parent sign a release form before they could skate. Robert then told them they also needed a helmet and pads in case they fell.

The line for ice cream moved along fairly quickly, as most people just got one or two scoops of ice cream on a cone or in a cup. It did take the Covers about thirty-five minutes before they even got into the store.

Ed Henry was overseeing the operation that night, and was surprised to see the owner and his 'boys' waiting in line like the rest of the people. He called out to the man to come forward and that he'd take care of them personally, but Mr. Ken said he wanted to see how the staff waited on their customers.

When it was the Covers turn, they all ordered banana splits. The counter server smiled at the request and went to Mr. Henry and told him she needed to make eight banana splits and that was way too many for her to make at one time and not have them melt before she gave them out.

Mr. Henry told the teenager to make as many as she felt she could make at a time and pass them out as soon as she made them. He told her he would jump in and help her along the way. The teen was able to prepare three banana splits at a time, while Mr. Henry made three more. That way all six boys received their ice cream concoctions at the same time. The teen then made the last two splits for Mr. Ken and Mr. Wayne.

When the server asked Mr. Ken if that would be cash or credit, Mr. Wayne passed her his credit card. She'd never seen a Black American Express credit card, and went to the manager to ask about it. Mr. Henry told her to treat it like any other credit card.

When she had the purchase slip ready for signature, Mr. Ed introduced her to Mr. Ken, as the store's owner. She politely smiled, but didn't say a word. Afterwards, he told her to remember the face of not just him, but of the other man and the six boys.

The boys devoured their special ice cream treats in record time. What they loved about them, though, was they were able to choose which flavors of ice cream they could get to build their banana splits. But they still got the standard strawberries, pineapples and chocolate syrup toppings along with the split banana on either side, whipped cream, crushed nuts and the cherries on top.

When it was time to leave, Matthew asked about getting Chief her cup of vanilla ice cream. Mr. Ken forgot about that and with the line still quite long, this time he did go to Mr. Henry and asked him for a medium cup of Chief's favorite flavor. Mr. Henry gave his employer the cup with his compliments and the Covers were soon on their way back to their separate homes.

Matthew called out to Chief when he entered the Kitchen Nook from the garage. "Chief, I have your ice cream, but it is different from what you usually get. Check it out."

Chief went to Matthew and jumped up to see her cup of ice cream. When the youngster put the cup down on the floor, Chief sniffed at it, as it wasn't the usual soft serve, she was used to. The resident pet tentatively licked at the cold concoction and after realizing it was just as cold as what she normally got, she went at it with gusto.

It took Chief considerably longer to devour this cup of ice cream than the soft serve would, but she was appreciative of the cold treat anyway. The cup did move about the floor as Chief licked at the cold luxury and the boys laughed at their pet as she did so. When Chief had finished her cold dessert, she went to Matthew and gave him some cold doggie kisses.

The Covers met in the Study, as they always did, before retiring for the night. They talked about the new ice cream store and its name, Mr. Ken's Kreamy Kone Ice Kream.

"Dad, what made you name your ice cream store that?" asked Robert.

"I'm not sure. Mr. Ed and I were kicking around some names and he mentioned that to be funny and somehow it stuck. It is unique, wouldn't you say?" laughed the teen's dad.

The boys talked about how good the ice cream tasted and they were happy they had the chance to try it out. They said they didn't like having to wait as long as they did for their banana splits, but after eating their splits they said the wait was worth it.

'Dad' Ken asked them if they wanted to go there from now on for their special ice cream treat. The boys talked amongst themselves and then said they wouldn't commit one hundred percent to that as they still enjoyed the soft serve that DQ had.

'Dad' Ken sent the boys up to their rooms to relax before going to bed. After they all left, he went out to the Kitchen Nook and turned on the television to watch the evening news to see what they had to say about the police raid on the suspected drug dealer's house the previous night.

Ken Thomas watched with interest as the news reporter told of how police departments from numerous jurisdictions had been watching the people who lived at the residence and who they came in contact with over the past three months. There was a video of the house and the people being taken out of the residence as the reporter made their report.

The reporter said the police and sheriffs told him they wanted to build an ironclad case against the drug dealers and their clients, which was why they waited so long to make their move on the three men who resided at the home.

The news reporter went on to say that, as the main raid was being conducted, other sheriff's deputies were rounding up their suppliers and customers, many of whom were high school students. The reporter added that those students were processed, given a court date and then released to their parents.

Mr. Ken didn't hear any student names given and in particular, Kaden's name was never mentioned. He was happy about that because, as a minor, the teen needed the anonymity so he wouldn't be harassed by his neighbors and friends. Although, his friends at The Cove now knew about his arrest and why, and he couldn't control who they talked to.

Ken Thomas did walk upstairs to see if the boys were still up. He found their bedroom doors still open as they waited for him to come up to talk to them and say Goodnight, but they were all asleep. All he did was make sure the covers were on them and then quietly closed their door.

The owner of The Cove got to bed later than he wanted to that night. He felt bad for not going up to say Goodnight to the boys, but he wanted to know what the news media was saying about the drug raid the previous evening.

It had been a long day for him with all the catching up he needed to do with his two employees and then with the three Sheriff's Deputies coming to his doorstep, and telling him about one of his boy's friends being caught up in the raid.

As he got into bed that night, he told himself, "My life isn't mundane with all the boys here, that's for sure." The man then climbed into bed and before he knew it he was fast asleep.

He felt as if he had just gone to bed when he opened his eyes that Saturday morning. Mr. Ken knew he had to have gotten a good night's rest, as when he woke up on his back it was his way of knowing he had slept well.

The man did his usual morning routine, dressing in his usual nylon running shorts, t-shirt and Crocs before heading outside to retrieve his morning newspaper. He told himself that if he didn't want to have to go out to breakfast, he better put some breakfast tacos in the convection oven for him and the boys. Otherwise, Charles will undoubtedly ask him to take them out because he'd been away for three days.

And sure enough, Charles was the first one into the Kitchen Nook that Saturday morning and even before he could ask his dad to take them out for breakfast, he could smell the distinct aroma of Momma Maria's breakfast tacos.

"Good morning, dad," said Charles, as he went over to the man and gave him a hug.

Not two minutes later, Kevin came into the Nook and immediately asked Charles if he had asked their 'dad' to take them out to breakfast. Charles didn't say anything. He just pointed to the convection oven and then his plate with three tacos sitting on it.

"Oh," was all Kevin said, before going over to give Mr. Ken a hug and saying, 'Good morning'.

Mr. Ken inwardly smiled at the exchange. He had predicted that would have happened if he hadn't been proactive in making the breakfast tacos for the boys. It wasn't that he minded taking them out to breakfast, but he also wanted to catch up on the local news and he couldn't very well do that when he wasn't at his own breakfast table reading his morning newspaper.

The rest of the Cover boys came into the Kitchen Nook and, as soon as they did, they could smell that awesome aroma of Momma's breakfast tacos. They each checked the convection oven, took three tacos and then got their drink of choice to wash them down.

As the Covers ate, Robert asked his dad if he was sure he wanted all of those extra boys and girls skating on the Skate Park. Dad Ken smiled and reminded his son that they were all going to invite some of their classmates over to try the Skate Park out, and all he did was hurry the process up.

Mr. Ken then asked the boys if they had decided about the Cove Skate Park and the 4th of July Picnic, and how they were going to handle the extra children who would obviously want to try the Cove Skate Park out.

The younger boys all looked to Robert to answer for them. But Robert turned it back on them and told them they needed to tell their 'dad' what they thought about letting any boy or girl to just come in and skate.

Billy felt his 'brothers' were against it, so he spoke up. "As I said before … we need to let the neighborhood kids try the Cove Skate Park out. We use it every day and if we don't skate for just one day, it isn't going to 'kill' us. They know about it, and when they come through the Main Gate for the Picnic, they can't miss it. What can be the harm in it?"

"But how do we control how many people are out on there at a time?" challenged Kyle.

"We can be the referees, sort of," responded Billy. "Maybe Mr. Ken … he can get us some special shirts … that tell the kids that we are the bosses, or whatever name we want to use."

"But how will they listen to us?" asked Kevin.

"They'll know from the start, when they come over to skate, that we are the supervisors and that when we blow our whistle, they need to get off the Park to let others take their turn," suggested Billy.

"And don't forget, the kids need to have a parent's signature on the release form before they can skate, and that may reduce the number of kids who do skate, at least in the beginning," intoned Mr. Ken.

"Dad … you want the other kids to try out the Cove Skate Park, don't you?" asked Charles.

"Yes, son, I guess I do. And, I like Bill's suggestion that I get you some sort of referee shirts to wear so the kids know who the managers of the Park are," added 'dad' Ken.

"Do you think Kevin, Kyle and me should be out there doing that, 'dad'?" asked Matthew. "We're all sort of small, and they might not listen to us. Maybe you should have people like Eric and Logan's size and Billy's friends wearing the shirts."

"Good point, Matthew. How many do you think we should have controlling the use of the Skate Park, boys?" asked 'dad' Ken.

"Well, so we don't miss out on riding the rides and playing the games and eating some of those great foods the church ladies make, we might need to have shifts," suggested Robert. "We could have at least six managers, as you called them, for something like two hours at a time. And we should close the Skate Park at say six o'clock, so we all can hang together and have fun at the Picnic," added the Cover teenager.

Mr. Ken was liking what he was hearing. Even though the boys weren't too keen on letting just anybody use the Cove Skate Park, now that they knew he wanted it to be open, they were getting on board and making great suggestions on how it could be done, with the minimum of disruption to their and their friends' fun for the day.

"OK … Billy, Robert … when your friends get here … talk to them about what we were just talking about. Ask them how many of them would be interested in helping us manage the Skate Park, for like two hours at a time. No … let's make it an hour at a time. That way more kids can try it out during the Picnic next Sunday, the 4th.

"We'll also need someone to pass out and collect the release forms. Maybe that is where Charles, Kevin, Kyle, Matthew and some of their friends can help out. Let's say we have the Park open from noon until six o'clock.

"I can get Mr. Chris to have a sign made stating that. He can also buy the striped referee shirts, lanyards, and whistles for you. I guess he'll be a busy man next week," laughed Mr. Ken.

They reviewed what they just talked about, before the boys went upstairs to get ready for their day. As the boys began hurrying out of the Kitchen Nook, 'dad' Ken told them that Mr. Wayne was off until at least Monday, or maybe even Tuesday, so if they had any questions or problems, they needed to find him. The boys all yelled they would.

Another beautiful summer day was getting ready to begin at The Cove.
