Three Finger Cove: Billy ~ Book Six

Chapter Seventy~Five

From Previous Chapter:

"I can get Mr. Chris to have a sign made stating that. He can also buy the striped referee shirts, lanyards and whistles for you. I guess he'll be a busy man next week," laughed Mr. Ken.

They reviewed what they just talked about, before the boys went upstairs to get ready for their day. As the boys began hurrying out of the Kitchen Nook, 'Dad' Ken told them that Mr. Wayne was off until at least Monday, or maybe even Tuesday, so if they had any questions or problems, they needed to find him. They boys all yelled they would.

Another beautiful summer day was getting ready to begin at The Cove.

The Covers' friends began arriving around eleven o'clock. That was when they found out that Mr. Ken had invited fourteen boys and girls from their school over to skate later. Robert explained that they were in line at his dad's new ice cream store, when they all got to talking.

The Cover teen said his dad was listening and then he invited them to stop by today to try out the Skate Park. Robert told their friends that all his dad did was advance their inviting some of their classmates over sooner than they had planned.

Around twelve o'clock, the security guards came over to the Skate Park and asked Billy if he knew about a bunch of kids being invited over to skate today. Billy said Mr. Ken invited them last night and he and Robert would be right over.

The two Covers hurried over to the Main Gate. There they found all fourteen boys and girls from the previous night waiting to be allowed to try the Cove Skate Park.

"Mr. Ken told you last night that you have to have a parent sign a release form before you can skate. If you don't have a parent with you now, I can give you a form you can take home to get signed and then you can come back. But without the signed form, we can't let you skate," announced Billy.

Some of the kids balked, but Robert told them his dad was very specific about having the release form signed. He added that they have the forms and all they need to do is go home get it signed by their mom or dad, or legal guardian, and return. That it was that simple.

The parents who were there asked if they could see the form before they signed it. Billy passed them out and the parents looked them over. They all signed them and gave them back to Billy. Three kids who didn't have a parent with them took the forms home hoping they could get their parents to sign them.

Robert escorted the kids into the estate. He told the parents they could come in and watch, but there weren't any soft seats anywhere and kiddingly told them they could not skate. Billy told the guards that if the three kids came back with signed forms, to just take them and let them into the estate. Billy hurried to catch up with his 'brother' and the eleven boys and girls and the parents who came in to watch.

Of the eleven new skaters, three were from Robert's class, three were from Charles' class, two were from Kevin and Kyle's class and the remaining three were from Matthew's class.

"Matthew, this place is awesome," said Braxton, one of Matthew's classmates. "I heard about this place, but I had no idea it looked this fine."

Matthew told him to put his safety gear on and get out on the Skate Park and try his moves.

Terry and Riley also came over to their fellow classmate and told Matthew how much they had hoped they'd get the chance to try this place out. Matthew smiled and told them to stop wasting valuable skating time and to get out on the Skate Park.

It was the same thing with Robert's friends, Reese, Bruce and Zoey. They thanked him for allowing them to come over and try out the new Skate Park. Robert said he'd be out there soon and he'd watch how well they could skate.

Holly and Bristol were two of Charles' friends from school. They, along with Kent, were at Mr. Ken's Kreamy Kone Ice Kream store last night when his dad invited them over to try out the new Cove Skate Park. The three classmates told Charles how much they had hoped to get an invitation to try their Skate Park. Charles told them to get out there and have fun.

Keith and Jonas were the two boys who went to school with the twins. The four boys talked some about the Cove Skate Park before Kyle told the new skaters to get out on the concrete and give it a try. So, that was what the two friends did.

The parents who came in to watch their children skate were amazed at the size of the Cove Skate Park and the Pavilion. They walked around and saw how clean and organized everything was. They were amazed that with the number of boys there that there weren't jackets, hats and other things just strewn around.

They looked at the Pavilion and saw Mr. Thomas had provided a large covered space for picnics. They noticed a very large gas grill, a deep double sink, serving counter, an ice dispensing machine, along with ketchup and mustard dispensers sitting and waiting for their customers.

What surprised the parents the most was the large restrooms the man had built for the boys and girls to use. Then they noticed the half-height lockers that they surmised the boys and their friends used to keep things orderly.

Billy noticed the parents walking around opening doors and looking at everything, so he got Robert and the two of them walked over to the adults and asked them if they could answer any questions for them. The adults were startled at first by being approached by the teenagers, but they were the two teens that invited them in, so they relaxed and began asking about the Cove Skate Park and the Pavilion.

While the new kids were skating and the parents were getting their questions answered, the guards had called Mr. Ken. They informed him of what Billy had told them he wanted them to do, if the three, would be skaters returned with their signed release forms.

Mr. Ken was surprised that Billy had taken the initiative, then told the guards that they should do that, but they should also call Billy to come over and escort the new skaters into the Park.

Mr. Ken also learned that a few of the parents came inside with their kids, so he decided to take one of the golf carts and go up there to talk to them. There were five parents of the eleven new skaters who took him up on his invitation to try out the new Cove Skate Park and he wanted to meet them.

"So, what do you think of my 'boys' Skate Park?" Mr. Ken asked the parents.

The parents couldn't say enough about the new Cove Skate Park and only wished their children had something that good near them to use. They told him they appreciated the chance he gave their kids to try out the new facility and hoped they'd get the chance to try it again some time.

Mr. Ken told them the Cove Skate Park would be available for about six hours the day of the 4th of July Picnic for any child to use as long as they had a parent or legal guardian sign a release form. He told them that since they had already signed the form their child could come by next Sunday and try the Skate Park again.

Mr. Ken did tell the parents that his boys would regulate how many children could be on the Park at one time, and would try to be fair with all the children. He said it would depend on how many kids came with their skateboards and safety equipment, and a parent to sign the release form, that would determine how long someone would be allowed on the Skate Park.

When it came time to cook, Billy and Matthew gathered their team to start setting up. They were returning the favor Charles and his Team did for them last Wednesday, when Billy was away on his 3-day trip, which was why they were doing it.

The newly invited children were still there skating and when they were told they could have a burger and hot dog they said they didn't have any money. Billy told them they were their guests and they didn't need to pay. All they needed to do was wash their hands and get in line and enjoy.

Even the parents were invited to eat with them. They were totally surprised at the invitation and when Mr. Ken came up to eat, they told him they didn't expect to be fed when they brought their children over to skate. Mr. Ken told them his boys and their friends cook every day and when they had guests, they were always invited to join them. The parents thanked him for his generosity.

The Covers ate with their invited friends and told them about the water toys and them swimming in the indoor pool when it was winter time. All eleven asked if they could see the rest of the estate including the indoor pool and the water toys after they ate.

The Covers said they would show their guests around the estate after they were all finished eating and the barbeque was put away. And that was what they did. Robert led the group to the shore and walked them to the marina. From there he pointed out the water toys and everything else the eleven could see. Their last stop was the indoor pool.

After showing the new invitees the rest of the estate, the eleven invitees got one more opportunity to skate on the Cove Skate Park. When six o'clock came, they were told that everyone left by then and were asked to gather their things and head to the Main Gate. The invitees, and their parents, thanked their classmates for letting them skate, for being good friends and for feeding them, too.

Mr. Ken was up at the Main Gate when the guests left, and he had to answer the regular parent's questions about who the new parents and children were. The owner of The Cove explained he invited a number of his 'boys' classmates who were waiting in line at his new ice cream store to stop by today and try out the Skate Park. He told them they weren't going to be regulars.

After dinner, Mr. Ken talked to the boys in the Study about how his inviting the fourteen students over today affected the skating. Charles said it really didn't affect them at all. It did add a few extra mouths to feed at the barbeque, but they always have extra burgers and dogs.

Robert did say that three kids didn't come back with their forms signed and wondered if they came back tomorrow should they let them in. The teen's dad asked his son, "Why not? They were invited to skate, but if their parents couldn't sign the release today then tomorrow is just another day with a new skater or two."

"Boys … you were all going to invite some of your classmates over to skate and … well, I am surprised you haven't yet. Give those friend's a call. Invite them over, but don't invite the whole class over at the same time. Get with one another and see how many each of you are going to ask over. Maybe you can trade off days if you want to invite, say, six or more friends.

"Or, maybe, we need to decide how many extra skaters you can safely invite … without overcrowding the skating area. Boys … I built this facility for you and you need to run it … so it is safe, but so that you can also invite those classmates you said you would. All I asked was that you don't put them into the database. If you want a certain person to come back you can ask them.

"Now, is there anything else we need to discuss?" asked 'dad' Ken.

Charles asked about the sleepover and if his dad was going to do the movie on the patio. Dad Ken said he was and that the boys needed to select the movie, get the food list ready for Momma to buy their breakfast and lunch foods on either Monday or Tuesday, and that at least one of them had to go with her.

Billy said he'd get with his 'brothers' tomorrow and work those issues out before their friends arrived. Mr. Ken said that sounded good to him and he hoped the boys could get that all worked out in time.

After the boys went up to get settled before bed, Mr. Ken made sure he went up to say goodnight to them. He spent a few extra minutes with each boy to make up for last night. The boys all loved that their 'dad' gave them each those special moments to spend with them alone.

The Covers all slept well that night.

Sunday morning, Mr. Ken was prepared. When he got up, he took his shower before going out to get his newspaper. He knew Charles would be asking him to take him and his 'brothers' out to breakfast and when his son asked, he would tell him they all had thirty minutes.

True to knowing his son, at approximately 9 a.m., Charles came into the Kitchen Nook, sans his 'brothers', and asked his dad if he'd take them out for breakfast. The teen then quickly added they didn't care where they went, as long as they got a good breakfast.

The teen's dad, holding his newspaper in his hands, looked at his son with a 'you want what' look and hesitated before answering. Dad Ken called his son over to him and hugged him and then told him he and his 'brothers' had thirty minutes to get ready.

"Thanks, dad," said Charles, as he hugged the man and then ran to tell his 'brothers' they were going out to breakfast.

At breakfast, Billy started asking his 'brothers' about the sleepover and what they needed to change or add to the food menu. Kevin said they needed to add tortillas and eggs to go with the bacon, so they could make breakfast tacos. Robert was sitting next to the older twin and bopped him on his head and told, "NO, we don't!"

That brought about a wider discussion of what they would serve their friends for the sleepover. It was Charles who stopped his 'brothers' by telling them they had already decided on what they would serve the other day and all they were supposed to do was tweak the List, not change it.

Charles argued, "If you want to change the menu it would be for the next time, not this one. We need to get moving on the List to give to Momma. Robert even said having to cook eggs for sixty people wasn't something he wanted to do.

"Look, we have a good menu, so, let's stick with it. If anything, we should give our friends peanut butter and jelly and let them fix their own breakfast. Now, I for one, don't see that we need to add anything, except the microwave oven, so Robert can reheat the bacon easier. Anyone else?"

Dad Ken was surprised that the usually meek and mild-mannered Charles spoke up and out as he had. He suspected that Kevin's asking about breakfast tacos touched a nerve in his son, so he knew he needed to talk to him later.

Before the Covers left the Diner, the boys decided to stick with the menu they had. Billy had his List and looked it over to make sure he wasn't overlooking anything before he gave it to Momma.

Back at The Cove, some of the boys' friends were waiting outside the Main Gate for them to return. Mr. Ken told himself he needed to talk to Jules about letting the boys' friends inside the estate when they were just gone for breakfast and were due back. Having the boys waiting outside the gate was unsafe, as there wasn't all that much room there.

Robert, the twins and Matthew got out of the van at the Main Gate and went with their friends over to the Skate Park and Pavilion. Billy and Charles went with 'dad' Ken down to the house.

"Charles, before you go up to your friends. Let's talk," casually said the teen's dad to him.

Once in the Study, Mr. Ken closed the door and then sat opposite his son.

"Charles … why were you so … so hard on Kevin earlier?" asked dad Ken.

"Oh, that? Well … he's always complaining about breakfast tacos, dad. And he never, he never fixes them for himself, or anybody else. Didn't you ever notice? He's a taker, dad. Maybe you haven't noticed, but he always … he always asks other people to do things for him. I'm surprised he helps with the barbeques," replied Charles.

"So, that's why you jumped on his wanting to have breakfast tacos?" asked dad Ken.

"Yea, dad. If we agreed to do that, he wouldn't have helped. He wouldn't have even put them together. He would have eaten them, but he wouldn't have gotten his hands dirty making them," complained the Cover teenager.

"Hmmm, I never did take notice, but I am not around you boys as much as I should be, I suppose. So … what do I need to do?" asked the teen's dad.

"I don't know, dad. You're the dad. You should know," smiled Charles.

Mr. Ken pulled Charles into his arms and hugged the teen. He told him that he'd watch Kevin, but in the meantime if Charles saw other things, he was to tell him. Charles agreed.

Around twelve, noon, the three invitees from the other day, along with one of their parents, came to the Main Gate to see if they could skate. The gate guards called Billy, as per Mr. Ken's instructions, who came to the gate to let the two boys and one girl into the estate.

Lawson and Tate were in Charles' class and Alison was in Robert's. So, when Billy took them over to the Skate Park, he called his two 'brothers' over to greet them and show them around.

Billy then went back to his friends, who were still talking about Kaden's arrest and whatever else they heard from other friends. Billy learned that Kaden was released into the custody of his mom early Friday morning after he went in front of a judge. None of his friends knew how much the bond was, or if there was one.

Billy was also surprised to learn Kaden was good friends with a good number of the school's 'upper' class, or well-do-do students whose parents had money. Billy then remembered how often his friend was called to meet up with them and would mysteriously have money after complaining he wished he could get a job.

Brett told Billy, and the other teens, that another friend told him Kaden often met this one man at the County Skate Park, but that they never skated. The friend told Brett that Kaden would get into a van and a few minutes later would get out holding a package he didn't have when he went in. It was then Kaden was picked up and he drove away with someone else.

Billy took it all in and knew he would have to tell Mr. Ken later, so he could call Mr. Dan and tell him what he'd heard. Billy knew Brett would get a visit from the Sheriff's Deputies, he just hoped he wouldn't find out it was him to tip them off.

Billy's other friends said similar things that they said they heard from their other friends who knew Kaden better than they did. Lonnie said Kaden was always looking for ways to make money, and would do anything so he'd have it. Gabe said he heard Kaden had a rad computer system, but he'd never been to his home, so he didn't know. Jamie said he only heard what everyone else just mentioned.

Billy told his friends that he still couldn't believe Kaden was involved with those drug dealers. But the Cover then added that he now understood why Kaden was always asking him about his step-dad and the drug dealing the man and his mom had done. His friends then said they all remembered Kaden asking about Billy's prior life and where he used to live.

None of the freshmen had a clue as to what was going to happen next. They all figured Kaden would have to go to trial and it would all come out then and they would all know about his activities and what he'd been up too and for how long. They also figured they'd learn who he was dealing to and they would be identified.

Billy then told his friends that the police wouldn't release names of kids under a certain age. Unless they too were directly involved with the drug dealers somehow. The Cover said they would probably never know for sure who Kaden sold his drugs to.

It was Kyle's Team who were responsible for cooking that day. They got everything ready before it was time, so when they started cooking the serving line was all ready for the diners.

The lifeguards were getting better at cooking the burgers and dogs. Dakota and Annie especially, who each were on a different twin team, didn't burn the burgers as the boys tended to do. They knew just when to take them off the grill and put them in the holding pan until it was time to feed the masses.

Lawson, Tate and Alison were called over to have lunch with the Covers, just as the other invitees were the previous day. They said they weren't hungry.

Robert went to Alison and her mom and told them that they always cooked burgers and hot dogs during the afternoon and when they had friends over, they were invited to join them. The teen Cover said that his dad would be up there soon, and he'd just tell them the same thing, so for them to go ahead and enjoy.

Alison and her mom were eating when Mr. Ken came over and sat at the same table with them. The owner of The Cove asked them how they liked the Cove Skate Park and what they thought about the burgers. Alison said she felt safe there as compared to the County's Skate Park. She said it was nice knowing other kids her age there and that they also talked to her and showed her some things to try.

Alison's mom told Mr. Ken she appreciated the invitation for her daughter, and was happy they allowed her in without even a question as to why she was there. The mom said the facility was wonderful and even though there were lots of kids out on the skate course there, it never seemed to be crowded. The mom did lament that it would have been better if there were more girls there.

Mr. Ken laughed at that comment. He told the woman that his sons, and foster sons, made friends with boys first, well before he ever built the Cove Skate Park. He told her that they had some very unpleasant interactions with some of the girls in their class, which is why they don't have close female friends. Mr. Ken asked the parent to talk to her daughter about the problems some of the girls wrought on his son Robert and a few of his friends. Then she might understand.

As the adults talked, Robert's friends went over to Billy, and his friends, to ask them what, if anything, did they learn about Kaden, since his arrest. They said they would like to know what was happening, as he was once a main part of their group and it would be nice to be kept up to speed.

Billy asked his friends if they wanted to tell his 'brother' and his friends what they were talking about. It didn't take them long to decide to tell them everything they knew about Kaden and his predicament.

When lunch was over, Charles took his friends around the side of the house to show them the marina and the boats and personal watercraft docked there. He also showed them the water toys and explained the games they play on them. The two boys said they wished they could do that some time.

Charles told them the cove will be open for swimming during the 4th of July Picnic and for them to bring their swimsuits, and they could change in the indoor locker room. The Cover then showed the two boys what the indoor pool and Men's Locker Room looked like.

Robert asked Alison if she wanted to see the rest of the estate, but she said that she just wanted to enjoy the Skate Park while she had the time. She did ask Robert if she could come back again. Robert told her that with five other 'brothers' they had to limit the number of people he could invite over at any one time.

The Cover then told her that the Cove Skate Park would be open for skating during the 4th of July Picnic, until 6 o'clock, and she could skate then. The girl smiled at him and said she hoped he would skate with her then. Robert smiled back and didn't say anything.

When six o'clock came and it was time for everyone to leave, the boys put their skateboards in their lockers and headed for the Main Gate to await their parents. Those who rode their bikes went directly home. Lawson, Tate and Alison thanked their Cover friends for the nice day of skating and said they'd see them during the Picnic next Sunday.

The Covers went to the diner side of the Four Corners Restaurant that evening. When they were finished Kyle hurried outside to look over to where their 'dad's' new ice cream store was to see how crowded it was. Seeing there was a line outside again, Kyle asked if they could go to DQ for their ice cream. All the boys laughed, and so did Mr. Ken.

As the Covers ate their Dairy Queen Sundaes, Mr. Ken teased them by saying he should be spending his hard-earned money at his own ice cream store instead of somebody else's. Kevin then spoke up and said if they went there, they'd still be waiting in line instead of enjoying their sundaes. All the boys laughed and even Mr. Ken had to smile at what the older twin had said.

In the Study later that evening, as the Covers talked about their day, Matthew said it felt strange not having Mr. Wayne there at all that weekend. He said he was so used to his being there, that he missed him.

Kyle then spoke up and said that Mr. Dan hadn't been stopping by very much and when he did it was because of police business, like the other day. The younger twin asked when he was going to be staying or going somewhere with them again. Mr. Ken smiled at the question and told Kyle that he'd talk to Mr. Dan and see if he could stop by a bit more often.

'Dad' Ken did make it upstairs to tuck his 'boys' into bed that night. He did talk to them a bit more, as he had the previous night. In Billy's room, he asked the teen about Kaden and if he heard anything more. That was when the teen told his foster dad about what Brett said about Kaden being seen at the County's Skate Park with a man and coming out of a van with a package.

Billy also told Mr. Ken that Kaden always complained that he never had any money and wanted to get a job. But Billy added that Kaden seemed to have money after he met up with the upperclassmen at the school. Billy said he could never understand it, but now that he had been arrested for dealing drugs it now made sense to him.

Mr. Ken told the teenager not to dwell on what he couldn't change, nor worry about his friend. The man said that he should just move forward and be a bit more careful as he chooses his new friends. Billy thanked the man for talking to him, and the two said Goodnight to one another.

Mr. Ken wore his normal early morning gear that Monday morning, knowing Momma Maria was there to fix them all breakfast. He went outside to get his morning newspaper and then headed to the Kitchen Nook for his first cup of hot coffee and to read what was happening in the world and the local area.

As the boys came down for breakfast, they talked about the sleepover scheduled for tomorrow night. That perked up Momma's ear and she wondered when they were going to mention it to her. She heard them talking about having a movie outside, on the Patio, and she wondered how they would do that.

After he was finished eating, Billy rinsed his dishes and then told Momma he wanted to sit down with her, after he took his shower, to talk to her about their sleepover they were having tomorrow night. He told her he would explain everything to her then.

Momma liked that Bill came to her and told her he wanted to sit down with her and talk to her about the sleepover. She noticed that ever since Bill arrived, she was kept more in the loop of what the boys were involved in than before.

After his shower, Billy did ask Momma if it was a good time that she could talk to him and his 'brothers'. She told him and his 'brothers' to have a seat and explain to her what they needed from her.

The boys told the woman, they were going to do the same menu as the last time and they wanted to know if she thought they could do anything different, or if they could add anything to the menu. Momma did mention that the precooked bacon would be easier if they had a microwave. Robert laughed and told her it was on the shopping list when they went to the box store to get some of their supplies.

As the boys talked to Momma Maria, Mr. Ken was talking to his Construction/Design people about the linear park he told them to design. They told him they started the process, but it wasn't something they could do in just two weeks. They told him they would need months of planning with the county, and then many meetings with the Planning and Zoning Commission before they could even begin to start construction.

Mr. Ken was disappointed at what he heard, but he told them to continue working on the project. He did ask them to see if they could fast-track the twelve parking spaces next to the Main Gate and use Safety and traffic control as their reason for the need for the new spaces. He told them to add a new Bus Stop Shelter to that list.

When it was time for Momma to go buy the supplies for their sleepover, Robert and Eric went with her. Mr. Wayne followed in the F-150 truck to bring back the sodas the boys would need for their sleepover and the rest of the week. This time Brad and Gordon went along to help him load the soda into the truck bed.

Billy told the rest of the boys their help would be needed when Momma and Mr. Wayne returned. He told them they would have the same menu tomorrow night and Wednesday morning and if they wanted something different for the next sleepover they needed to speak up and volunteer to help with it.

After Billy's little talk, the boys went back to skating, as they waited for the burgers to be burned or Momma Maria and Mr. Wayne returned back to The Cove. All they could do now was wait and skate.

When the two adult Covers returned with their vehicles full, the boys quickly gathered around to help offload the supplies. Mr. Wayne pulled ten boys away to help with the 120 cases of sodas and 20 cases of water he bought for the Pavilion.

"Hey, what's the microwave for?" asked one boy, who was carrying it to the storage room before he was redirected to place it on the serving counter.

Robert told Mason that with the microwave, he could now reheat the bacon without taking valuable griddle space away from cooking the pancakes. He said he hoped to be able to cook more pancakes faster than the last time. He also said they got two extra gallons of pancake mix to feed all those hungry mouths.

It took about twenty minutes to off load all of the menu supplies and then store them in the storage room. Billy checked his shopping list as it was all brought into the room and then directed where it should go. Lunch was put on hold until everything was put away.

While the boys ate, Mr. Ken talked to the three male lifeguards about being able to work tomorrow night. He reminded them they would work until midnight, and he added they were to tell their parents not to expect them to leave until closer to twelve-thirty as they had to close up the pool and have a midnight snack. The lifeguards all laughed.

Dakota was working that day and she asked Mr. Ken if she or Annie would get to work the late nights, as well. Mr. Ken told her he would think about that, and left it at that.

After everyone had eaten, some of the boys decided to go swimming and they decided to swim in the cove. That meant the four lifeguards had to get out on their four posts. The lifeguard who was on the beach tower, was responsible that anyone twelve and under put on a life vest before venturing out into the water.

The cove water was still quite cool, but the boys remembered all the fun they had the previous year and they wanted to recreate those fun times. The guards watched the boys fall off the bigger water toys and go back for more. They knew if anyone was going to get hurt it would probably be around the Iceberg Climbing Wall where the boys played their game King of the Raft. Luckily for the lifeguards the younger boys would float to the top because of the life vests.

The boys had a great time swimming. They swam for about ninety minutes before the cool waters got to them and they had to go inside and take warm showers. They did take a few turns on Rock It before they went in, though.

When six o'clock came, Mr. Ken and Mr. Wayne were up at the Main Gate to greet the parents and to remind them about the sleepover scheduled for tomorrow night. He told them to make sure their son or sons brought their sleeping bag, a pillow if they wanted one, and a change of clothes along with their swimsuits and a clean towel. Hearing the clean towel comment had some of the boys scramble back to their lockers to get their old dirty towels so they could bring the clean ones tomorrow.

After dinner and a visit to Mr. Ken's Kreamy Kone Ice Kream store, the Covers sat around the Study and talked about the sleepover, the menu and how they intended to feed their friends.

After discussing the sleepover, Mr. Ken told the boys what to expect with the Picnic coming up that weekend. He told them the carnival operator arrived Friday and he would begin setting up his rides. With that, he told his 'boys' they would have to stay out of the man's way and they would have to keep their friends away from them as well.

'Dad' Ken also told the boys that on Saturday there would be no skating. He told them the carnival operator would need to test all of his rides and the church groups would be arriving to set up their food booths and there would be way too much going on for there to be 50-plus boys hanging around the estate.

Mr. Ken then remembered the fire extinguishers would be delivered either Wednesday or Thursday and the boys needed to stay away from that delivery truck when it arrived. He did tell the boys they may have to help distribute the extinguishers to the food booths.

Robert then told his 'brothers' how last year, he and Collin got to test out the rides when the carnival operator had them all setup. The teen also said they got to ride them the morning of the Picnic and that was so much fun not having to wait in line.

Mr. Ken told the boys not to bother the man as he set up his rides. He told them it was very dangerous to be around all those moving parts, so he didn't want to see them out there amongst the rides and the people setting them up. He asked them if they understood him. They all said they did.

Mr. Ken then sent the boys up to their rooms to relax before going to bed. He told them he and Mr. Wayne would be up there in a few minutes to say goodnight to them.

The two men talked about the sleepover set for tomorrow night and how the boys were handling it all as they had the last time. They talked about the upcoming Picnic and everything that still needed to be done, but they knew Mr. Chris was on top of all that. They then headed upstairs to talk to the boys and say goodnight to them.

Another busy day was over and the Covers were settling down for the night.
