Skylar's POV
“Okay Sky, time for you to get up!” Dad was banging on my door trying to get me to wake up.
Dad's been super busy with work and asked us the other day if we'd like to see what he does everyday. We wouldn't be going to like a bank robbery or anything just seeing the behind the scenes.
“Okay I'm awake.” It's 6:45 on a Saturday... Why'd I agree to this?
By the time I got upstairs Aidyn was already deep into a bowl of cereal. He was still half asleep, “Either of you boys tried coffee yet?”
Aidyn nodded, “It's horrible.” He took another bite of his breakfast.
Dad looked over at me, “What about you Sky? Every try it?” I shook my head. “Here try some of mine then.”
Dad handed me his cup. The brown liquid inside kinda looked like a milky hot chocolate but didn't smell like it. I took a little sip and immediately winced, “Gross!”
I handed it back, “Don't like it either Sky?”
I furiously shook my head, “No, if I need something to keep me awake I'd rather an energy drink.” The look on dad's face told me he didn't approve. I just grabbed some Lucky Charms and continued on my morning routine.
Once everyone had finished getting ready we were off to the police station. I think I actually fell asleep in the car cause I don't remember the drive there at all. Dad showed us around the station, introducing his co-workers and his boss.
He even showed us the jail cells. “So this is where you keep people for months on end?”
Dad chuckled, “No Sky, this is where we keep them for a few days before they get transferred to a bigger prison meant for keeping them longer. That or until we can't hold them any longer.”
“So we wont even get to see the bad guys?” Aidyn asked.
“Probably not today, but who knows.”
Dad's day was set up so he'd be patrolling most of the day. And with only one passenger seat in the car only one of us could go at a time. Aidyn volunteered for me to go first. I was okay with that.
We'd drive around just looking at people. Dad explained to me what he would look for to pull someone over or to stop someone on a side walk. It was actually pretty cool how everything worked.
Out of no where though Dad asked me a strange question, “You and Greyson sure are spending a lot of time together, eh Sky?”
“Ya.. He's my best friend. His parents trust me to take him places and everything.”
I could see the smile on his face, “That's good that they trust you like that. Greyson seems like a kid who needs that kind of friend. Do you two hang out with anyone else?”
“Not really... Greyson kinda freaks people out for some reason. I think it's mostly his eyes. He looks like he's staring off into space at people all the time. They get a little weirded out.”
“That's too bad, you should never judge a book by it's cover.” Dad smiled at me. I let out a giggle and felt a blush go over my face.
If dad knew exactly what Greyson and I were... I don't know how he'd react. He seemed to take Aidyn being into guys well but it kind of feels awkward now. I can't get exactly what but Dad seems a little different now. Something I just can't put my finger on.
Aidyn's POV
The morning I spent chilling out with the other officers. It was pretty cool actually. They have a gym and I spent most of my time in it. By the time Sky and Dad came back I was pretty sweaty from running on the treadmill.
“The car is super awesome! You're gonna have a blast Aidyn!” Sky was really excited.
“Good to know.” I ruffled his hair as I walked past. He didn't like that too much.
Dad and I left the station and started his second scan of the town. In the beginning it was kinda awkward but we started joking about things and the mood loosened up.
“I remember the time when you dunked a bucket of water over Sky on a hot summers day. He was crying so hard until he realized he had cooled down.” I might have been evilly helpful to my brother more than once when we were little.
“He started crying immediately. Man I got in so much trouble for that.”
Dad shook his head, “And then he would always ask you to do it. We tried to teach you a lesson...” Ya that one didn't stick very well. We got quiet for a moment, “So how are you and Noah?”
“We're good...” Dad's interested in Noah? Since when? “We've been hanging out a lot alone and with friends.” I don't really know what to say.
“Are you out at school?” I shook my head. “Why not?”
Man I'm about to tell my dad that I'm scared of something. “To be honest I'm kind of scared. I feel like when I tell people things are going to change and I'll loose my popularity at school.”
“That means nothing Aidyn.” Ya shut up, I know.
I shrugged, “You know how high school is. I just can't muster the courage to do it. Noah wants me to. It's thanks to him that I told you guys...”
“All I can say is that if people treat you differently it's their fault not yours, Aidyn. They aren't truly your friend if they can't accept YOU.” Dam that's some good advice.
The rest of the ride was pretty cool. Dad actually pulled over some cars for speeding and issued tickets. I thought it was pretty cool. We don't live in the biggest of towns so there wasn't anything major but it was a pretty cool day to spend with dad.
We got home at about 5:30pm just before dinner. We walked into the house and you could smell the food cooking. “How was your day boys?” Mom peaked out from inside the kitchen.
“Awesome!” Sky and I replied at the same time.
I started to make my way upstairs. “I'm just going to go check my computer and I'll be down for dinner.”
“Don't take too long Aidyn!” Mom HATES to be kept waiting at dinner.
I started up my computer. Facebook, nothing. Emails, some bullshit fliers for stores. None of my sites had any good updates on them. Man internet is boring today!
There was a knock at my door, “Aidyn...” It was Sky, “Can I come in?”
“Sure, bro, what's up?” Sky slipped in and closed the door behind him. He was looking around my room like it had changed in the past three years. Maybe bedding and some cloths but not much else. “What's on your mind Sky?”
He blushed. “It's kind of embarrassing.”
“Since when have you care about embarrassing?” Answer: All the time. “Tell me, I promise I wont laugh.”
He looked at me for a moment then averted his gaze. “When did you know you liked boys?”
“I knew when I was 14, I kinda guessed it when I was 10 though. Sex ed at that age changes a man.” Sky let out a giggle. “What's going on Sky?”
He let out a sigh, “I think I like Greyson...” I really didn't know what to say to that one, “and I know he likes me...”
“Wait how do you know?” Again he blushed, “Wait, did he kiss you?”
“I let him I swear!” He didn't want me going all big brother on Greyson. When Sky does this it means one of two things. Either he's being way too nice or there is no reason for me to go into it. I'd go with the later on this one. “We've snuggled and kissed and stuff... When I'm with him I get butterflies but in a good way.”
“I think you may have a crush little bro. You haven't gone pass a kiss?”
He shook his head, “No, I swear. Have you?” It was my turn to blush, “YOU HAVE!?” He practically screamed.
“Hey, hey, hey, quiet down Skylar.”
He cover his mouth, “Sorry, I didn't mean to. Can I ask what?” I just looked at him. He got my message, “Oh my god! No way! With Noah?”
I nodded, “Yes Noah and I have had sex. No details and no telling a soul!”
“Can I tell Greyson?” I shook my head, “He's trust worthy though, I promise!”
“You might trust him Sky, but I don't have a reason to.”
“Yes you do, I trust him. That should be good enough.” Dam he's good.
I was out of good reply. He was right, I mean if he thinks Greyson is trustworthy, why don't I trust him? Luckily Mom interrupted us so I didn't have to admit it. “Sky, Aidyn, Dinner time!”
Like I said mom doesn't like the be kept waiting so we quickly made our way downstairs. Man Sky likes Greyson... That's actually kind of cute.
Greyson's POV
Dad had brought me to a new strange place. I had never been here before, I could tell by the noise and smells. I was hanging onto his shirt for dear life. I didn't want to get lost.
“Dad where are we? Have I been here before?”
“No you haven't. It's brand new to you.” That doesn't help me. I grabbed his shirt a little harder. “You don't need to be scared Greyson. Nothing will happen I promise. Just a little farther and we'll make it to where I want to bring you.”
It was another five minutes before he came to a stop. “What am I going to hear?”
“Not hear, feel.” I'm going to feel something? Okay now I'm kind of getting excited. “We're at a taxidermy museum that allows you to feel all the different kinds of animals. You'll be able to pet all kinds of things, like this.”
He placed my hand in a big ball of hair. I felt around the fixture and found it's eyes and nose. I went down the body and found the hair stopped at around it's back and it went to smaller hairs down the body. I found the tail and got all the way to the end. “It's a lion! But aren't these endangered? How come they have one?”
“This place takes half of its proceeds and sends them to causes that protect wild animals from poachers and things like that. In return they have received some of the animals that weren't so lucky.”
I returned to the face, “I'm sorry Mufasa. Simba is okay though, I promise.”
Dad laughed at me. “Want to go and feel some other animals?” Of course I do, what kind of question is that?
I felt all sorts of animals. Dad would never tell which ones he was showing me though. I always had to guess. I got to feel tigers, bears(oh my), ducks and all sorts of animals.
When ever we went to a new animal dad would test my knowledge about them. I would tell him everything I knew and then he would read out the description of it and I would learn something new!
I knew we had spent a long time there but it wasn't until my dad said, “It's time to go. Our reservations are in twenty minutes.” We had reservations for 5:30pm... we got to the museum at about noon.
The car ride was entirely me talking about the museum. I was kinda nerding out about all the different animals and dad of course was listening to me the entire time.
Dad stopped driving. “We're here.”
“Where's here? You never tell me before we get there.”
You could hear the cheerfulness in his voice. “Cause you're the only person in the world I can always surprise!” He had a point. Not a very good one but one nonetheless.
We ended up taking me to a new local diner that he really wanted to try. It turned out lots of the food there I wanted to try as well. At least the ones dad told me about. Dad knew what I liked and only told me about them. Secret to my stomach: Chicken.
It was after we ordered our food that dad asked about Sky. “How are you and Sky doing?”
My face started to burn up. “We're fine. Been hanging out and stuff...”
Dad chuckled. “I know it's awkward but I feel I have to ask. Have you two... engaged in anything yet?”
“DAD! Right here, right now?” He said nothing to me. “No we've just... We've slept on the couch together and kissed a few times. Nothing more I promise.”
Again dad chuckled. “Okay, promise me you'll use protection if it ever gets that far.”
I swear my face is on fire. “Yes, dad okay! Can we change the topic of the conversation please?”
“Of course, how's school? Making anymore friends?”
I shook my head, “No, I only ever talk to Sky, Aidyn, Aaron, and Noah. Even in my classes I mostly just keep to myself...” I hear people make comments about us but I try not to let it bother me. I wouldn't tell my dad that though.
“Well sounds like you just haven't found the right kid to befriend. Someone will come around and come and hang with you guys. It's bound to happen.” Dad and I kept talking about school and Sky.
These are the days I love. The days where my dad and I goof off and have a good time doing it!
