Commander David was assigned to the SS Stephen William Hawking as her Chief of Security and Tactical Officer. His record was without blemish until something happened aboard the ship.

According to his personal logs, the entire crew went insane. The Captain ordered the ship to turn about and head back to Earth, where they would attack and take over the planet. Commander Frank David was opposed to such action, so he was left stranded on a planet with one week's worth of rations and an emergency beacon.

When offered his choice of command between the SS Stephen William Hawking or the SS Darastix, he chose the Darastix.
